Wow Barry some complicated piece that and Airfix.

Tempted but in our small flat Pauline would have to stand all night.

For me detail in model making is the enjoyment. Complications and detailing where you have to use the grey matter to sort out the sequences. if you do not it all goes wrong.

Here is where I am now at. I have to say the fit is excellent but you do need to use clamps. There are very tight tolerances and if one piece is not tightly cemented into its place it will have a knock on effect causing poor for late in the build.

There are also a lot of ejection marks and some sink holes to deal with. It's not so bad for me as I will be closing her up but if you have hatches opened up these will need to be dealt with. I am not complaining, this is a great kit one of the best I have ever built.

I need to leave off a lot of the engine fittings and pipes as they will prevent the hatches from fitting. I am just fitting enough of the engine and radiator parts as are needed for the structure and will be seen. The model is becoming satisfyingly heavy.

Above with the inner lower wing fitted as you can see it fits like a glove. I will use a little Mr Dissolved Putty to blend the wing part in a little with the surplus removed with a cotton bud dipped in ipa which will preserve the detail.

You can see a close up above of the wing structure going in. There is a fair bit to do and any slight misalignment will put it all out. So far so good. Finally a pic of where I am up to.

This model is simply addictive. Normally I will do an hour or so when I get home from work, then eat and watch a bit of tv before bed. Now I am going back for a second session before bed. I can't keep away from it so I am making fast progress.

I have got to this....

Tonight all that wing structure detail will be hidden when I fit the top of the wings and the panel over the gun bays.

Polux, your cut-away will look spectacular with all that exposed. Take a bit of care dry fitting all the assemblies. Some of the fit is tricky the way parts interweave.

I am now getting a real feel of the sheer size and impact of this model.

Thanks Barry, noted mate ;)

Certainly looks amazing, great work so far....

Looking at your model, I'm worrying how many hours of paintwork will need

PS: Sorry to don't be with you building this kit Barry, I feel isn't my moment to go with it yet....

No problem Polux. I just hope any experiences I am able to have help you when you make a start.

Very nice Barry. That is the advantage of a large scale the massive detail work.

I am all for that if only I had the room. I bet there are some logistic problems airbrushing this large model. .9 needle nozzle perhaps ?

Looking forward to seeing this on the grass. Actually seen a Tempest tip a V1 flying bomb. About 7 at the time. Great sight

Laurie airbrushing should not be a problem. The Revell 1/32 He111 was bigger!! The airbrushing of that monster was the only bit that did not fight me.

Anyway just finished another session. I am cementing the tops of the wings in stages having done several dry fits with a little sanding or filing as fine adjustments. It should result in a perfect fit. Now waiting to dry fully then I will cement into place the inner wing tops clamping them down. I have also fitted the right fin section to the fuselage and the tail wheel location point.

Here is a pic.

I don't know if I would go as far as Polux, but If I was building all that lovely detail I would open up every hatch and panel I could.

A most impressive build so far Barry.

Ian - it gives me an excuse to build another with the panels open!!!!!!

I do just love that Tiffy look, all clean and buttoned up. A real brute of an aircraft and that is what I want to capture in this build.
