First foray into figure painting

As above, I've never built or painted a figure kit so I will be having a go with this dude



Not he most expensive or best quality sculpting or casting but I've been wanting to try this out for a while. I may revert to oils for their blending ability but I got a set of these recently off eBay



Primed the head in black



And thinned 'base flesh'. Seems a bit dark but YouTube says that's what one looks for.... So will see what happens after shadows and highlights



I'll probably put another coat on for uniformity.

Nice figure!

Paint the skin tones is the most difficult work (almost for me)...

Looks a good start

The rest of him goes together quite well but the rifle and shovel are warped so I will need to see if the hot water trick will work to straighten them out

I'm looking forward to doing the skin tones but I'm also dreading it as I've heard it's difficult

Good luck with you figure starting with the head is a good 1st step.i always prime my figures in white or light grey as it's a lot easier to darken things than make dark things light.Heads and faces and eyes are a bugger to get right and I have stripped them right back on more than one occasion. Practice is the key here I have now completed about 16 1/16 figures and I'm still learning and improving as I go but it's amazing when I compare my 1st figure to my last as the difference is remarkable and looks like both figures were painted by two different people but I won't touch my 1st figure as it's a nice marker of were I started and were I'm at now and I've still got away to go but I love doing figures as they are very relaxing good luck with yours I will be watching with interest thanks John

John thanks for the encouragement, I'm expecting this one to be a "ok that'll do otherwise I'll lose my mind" type of affair, however I'm doing it so I learn something new so I'm not gona lose sleep over it.

I've read and seen a lot of videos about this and it seems that the consensus is that light grey and white are the main ways to prime, however I did see one guy doing it in black and just took my pick and I thought for the ease of seeing shadows black was the way to go. I'm sure I'll be trying out s few different ways in future.

As for the differences, I can still see forward and backward steps in every model I build so as long as a learn something each time I'm happy.

I'll hopefully get some more of this done this evening or tomorrow morning, night shift does funny things to ones body clock!!
