With my under a tenner GB Harrier on the home straight, I was wondering what to start next. The 1/24 Typhoon was beckoning but that is a big job that I don't think I'm ready to commit to it yet. So I was browsing the threads for inspiration and a few of you who shall remain nameless (you know who you are!) have been building very nice Mossies, and I thought, I've got one of them!

So here it goes its the Airfix kit which contains nearly enough bits for two. Plus the addition of weighted resin wheels and quickboost seats.

It comes with two scheme options and I really don't know which one I prefer so if you don't mind I thought I'd put it to a vote.

I did start cutting bits off sprues and got the seats cleaned up and fitted. I reckon they look great!

I voted silver. They do look nice in silver.

They look nice in any colour.

Dum Dum Silver for me Jason, always great to see something with a different finish from the norm, am I right? The votes will have to decide that one I'm afraid ;) :D

Just voted for silver to find the vote in a dead heat so far - looks like it's not just you that can't decide, Jason!

Actually Jason there are other schemes than the above two if you wanted further choice.

http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/schemes/raf_nf40a_e.htm

This gives colour schemes through out WW11 for various roles aircraft played. Naval and RAF.

Laurie.

I went for PRU blue as well - I'd like one of these, it'd go nicely with my Spitfire PR. XIX

Some interesting stuff there Laurie. Too many choices aren't good for me though. It makes me by too many kits.... :D

Anyone feel like voting for silver to save me from the invasion stripes???

Jason you do not need to have the invasion stripes. They were a Battle of Normandy and Brittany thing. Mosquitos were darting all over the place before Normandy and did not have any of those stripes.

On a personal note I am not thrilled by the stripes especailly as Normandy was only 6 to 8 weeks (should know exactly as I am reading about it at the moment) and was not representative of the life of a Mosquito. But then that is my opinion but I have one vote for that view of matters. :D

I always thought that PRU blue was used well after the Normandy landings? IMHO it would look better without them.

In preparation for the resounding victory of PRU blue I've been doing some research. You're right Patrick, PRU was used right up until the end of the Mossies operational service. I've found some late examples of dark sea grey uppers over PRU from the mid 50s.

And I agree with you Laurie that the Normandy landings were an important but very brief period in the operational life of this aircraft. Plus I don't really want to do invasion stripes again as I've just done them on the Eduard Spitfire and there's a pretty good chance I'll be doing them on the 1/24 Typhoon. So during my research (Google) I've found some images of a 680 sqn Mossie with a red and white stripy tail and yellow spinners. I should have enough decals in the spares box for the correct serials, if so then it's the one I'll be recreating.
