Hi people just compleated this Airfix 1/72 model Short Sunderland Mk III, the markings are for a aircraft

of 423 Sqn Royal Canadian Air Force based at Castle Archdale, Northern Ireland, 1943 - 44, for North

Atlantic patrol duties.

The Sunderland was a welcome sight for meny a shot down air crew, over the sea, and was used

increasingly as the war continued against U-boats.

I had a good look around a full size Sunderland on my last trip to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford

unfortunately no longer flying.

Nice clean build Colin. Brings back memories of my youth, when I saved about a months pocket money for this model way back in 1959 approx. and paid the Princely sum of 10/6d.

Great work Colin. I did this kit a bit ago and know what you had to do to get it looking so good top job

Lovely build and paintwork, Colin, on a truly venerable kit. Nice rigging on the struts, too. I too can remember when it was 10/6d. Incidentally, how many other things are there that were first made 50+ years ago, and are still being produced virtually unchanged today. I can think of the great guitars of the 50s (Stratocaster, Telecaster, Les Paul), but not much else.

What a beautiful looking plane and model. Superb work on a stunning aircraft certainly deserving the 'Great Build' tag.

Cheers

Very nice Colin. Been thinking of adding this to my ambitions.

The Sunderland appeared in the film Yangste Incident. This was the true happening of HMS Amythest caught up in the Chinese civil war. The Sunderland lands along side The Amythest. Filmed on the Medway. Some great shots.

I think there is still a Sunderland in the Southampton Air Museum. You can crawl all over the aircraft.

Nice model Colin some very nice paintwork.

Now that's a blast from the past. It was probably about 35 years ago I built the Airfix Sunderland. It's a very clean build.

Nicely done Colin. It's a very old kit, you've made a good clean job of finishing it. Great build.

Lovely clean paint and build, always thought this not to be a very good kit to build.

However you have definitely got this just right.
