Always liked the sea king, I remember seeing them in dark blue at navy days. They are kind of friendly looking!


Will be watching with interest.


I love aircraft that have the ability to show off their various colour schemes especially the Hawk for one!

These might be workhorses and a welcome sight if you are bobbing about on a lilo a mile from shore but they are a pain in the 4rse to look after.

Maybe for the fish heads its fun to work on but the HAR3's were just horrible.

Looking very good, never tried a chopper (got one in the stash somewhere )

Obviously one of the two above is a brylcreme boy and the other a foot shuffler, but perhaps a quick question can be answered for me. The sea King has the same engine system as the other Westland variants, so why did they seem to have different engine characteristics? One more powerful than the other or so it seemed to me.

I'd have to root about in the loft for my course notes but although they were RR Gnome engines different marks may have had slightly different rated lumps, I have a vague recollection of this being discussed during the Q course all those years ago.

Thought the royal navy colour a change from the RAF all yellow.... it might be a record LOL.. ;)

I was thinking between the sea King and Merlin, as I thought they were same engines, but perhaps not.

Can you believe it - a private company doing SAR. I'm not connected to the forces in any way, but as a 'lay man' I imagined each SAR mission would have been better than a training flight, and you might save a life at the same time.
