Right, a new RC HL Tiger I is winging its way to me. This one has full proportional control, sound and smoke, plus it fires. With work on 'Helga' finished this maybe sold...or maybe not :D Helga was great as she gave me a test bed in painting and for drilling and adding cabelling, this way I know that I should be okay and not make a mess of it.

This one is going to be of the 502nd HPB, so having looked I have bought.

New PE grille set.

Pennant and flag set.

Metal gearbox.

Zimmerit set.

Heavy rope and chain set.

So, just need to workout a colour scheme that the 502nd used: I have seen the standard Panzer Gray used but also a camo and winter version. I do like the winter version, think it really suits the Tiger.

The tank has arrived and is now in bits on the workbench, the rear grilles have arrived so I can fit them.

These are the colour schemes that I found for the 502nd. Not sure what to do.

This should be an interesting build Si, and at this scale you can go for some cheap yet useful upgrades. For instance, using balsa wood for the jack block & real wooden tool handles - whack a cocktail stick in a power drill, wrap some sandpaper around the stick & you'll soon have the correct thickness.

As for colour schemes, obviously the date counts the most. Pre August 1943 means German Grey overall, although there are some variations - Tommy's TiKi Tiger build springs to mind.

Keep us updated :smiling3:

Yeah so many options, I could go mental and uprate the lot with metal parts, cupola, ports, mantel, barrel, tracks, even hull and turret, but I want to keep the weight down so will not bother.

I have to remove the Feifel filters somehow and figure away to sort that out.

UPDATE:

The tank is stripped and having looked I have found one that has the Feifel filters fitted and no Zimmerit. So going with that one.

Started on the turret. I have added scratch marks, chipping and wear plus swirls to denote hobnail boots scuffing up the surface, over 2 hours just on the turret so far, still more to do.

UPDATE:

The top hull is nearly complete, still some more finishing off, painted numbers and insignia etc and weathered in African Earth, also done some damage.

Are those 540 motors? They look very similar to the stock motors used in 1/10 buggies etc, if so, that looks a powerful power train ! How long a run do you get on a single charge?

No it uses 2x 380 motors, full charge takes 6 hours approx giving a run life of around an hour or more, depending on what you have on, smoke, sound, firing and running it at full pelt.

Ta Moni, this has taken its toll on my poor hands and fingers, all the scratches and wear are done by hand-wanted to show scuffs and scratches instead of just doing some chipping.

Cool, I used to race buggies, back in the day, using ni-cads (£30 a set for good ones) we could squeeze a 5 minute race!

Nice paint job, by the way!

Are the days of yore...I used to do RC boats and always remember folk not taking into account the water when running. On dry land the prop would go like hell even with a low charge, in the water it just slowed and stopped.

Thank you John, pleased you like it.

UPDATE:

Rear panel, filters painted and then attached, made braided pipes, all painted and weathered, also did some wear to the flag and pennant.

As you can see, there is still a lot to do.
