Figure Base

Hi guys I'm about to make my first base for a figure and was wondering is using polystyrene and giving it a texture using model clay is ok. Is it ok to stick on some wood. Will the clay stick to the polystyrene and also glue to the wood. Is this a good idea or am I going about it in the wrong way. CHEERS

Instead of expanded polystyrene Shazad, use extruded polystyrene - it's denser and much easier to shape.

Whichever you use, prime it with a 50:50 mix of PVA & water.

Shazad, The easiest way to get a very nice base for your figures is to get to a supermarket and look for those nice polystyrene containers which have food in them. (you might even have one in your fridge right now!)

Already nicely shaped around the edges. Then as Patrick writes, coat it with watered down PVA, then you can stick any sort of covering on the tray - spot on to stand a figure on.

Here's a tray with a 1/35 Pak 40 sitting on one, to show what I mean.

I hope you find the above of some use.

Cheers,
