That makes me wonder: how can you tell the two (Tromp and De Ruyter) apart, other than by the number painted onto the hull? It’s not my area of specialty, and the only reason I guessed De Ruyter is because a few hours before I replied last night, I watched Saving Lives at Sea. That showed De Ruyter towing a coaster with engine trouble, and on seeing the photo Lee posted, I thought, “It looks just like the frigate in that show” so I went for that :smiling3:

Pure luck - I came across Tromp and not De Ruyter so I went for Tromp.

Here you go chaps, the Tromp alongside in Pompey... with her number

John - if it is not a lancer, then I would suggest a hussar, but no idea of the regiment.

Originally they could be considered as lancers but that was never in their name........

If my recollection is right, the British adopted the lance after seeing Nappleon's lancers so we need to find a regiment which took up the weapon around that time but never changed their name. Interesting challenge.

Here's a little clue since this is proving elusive. Think colonial.

I think this is the 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword.Designed for the thrust and carried into action at least until the beginning of the first world war.

Would this be carried by a member of the Royal North-West Mounted Police before they merged with the Dominion Police?

This is an RCMP sword. The Edward VII cypher is still carried since he was the King who gave the Royal to their title. Over to you

Ah. I went for the RNWMP because of the cypher. Thank you.
This might be a bit easy but it's mid-week.
What is this?

It’s a prototype for the Cobray Lady’s Home Companion (look that up before commenting on the name — it’s worse than that suggests :smiling3:).

The Puckle gun.
Not very good and no record of it ever being used in anger.Quite possibly no more than 2 production models.
back to you John.
