OK, a little progress over the weekend:
Ladies and gentlemen I present you with, "the office" in all its glory and intricate detail:
I decided to paint the instrument panel black to show willing, I may put some small grey spots on there later to try and add a little detail. It's a touch...
That's a bold choice with the paints!
I'm not sure what revel are playing at with the included paints, I think I saw an HMS Titanic kit without the black when I was looking...
Good luck!
That's really very tidy!
I must admit I was tempted by this kit but worried about the decals for the grin being difficult, you've made that look really nice

So, rolling my sleeves up to get stuck into the starter kit build with an Ebay special, the Westland Whirlwind.
Scalemates suggests this is a tooling from the late 70's, but the box is likely to be from the last 10 years so the paint has a hope of being as good as it ever was.
Unboxing...
Right I'm a little late but found myself on Ebay after seeing this thread and saw this kit.
Notes in advance:
1) I have a terrible track record for finishing models the last couple of years, life's a little busy, so the idea of just doing one as a starter set appeals as I can't try to over...
Thank you very much sir,
109 now assembled and awaiting paint. I do not remember there being so many teeny tiny parts when I was younger, either my hands are a lot bigger or the kits are more detailed...
Next up, paint.

OK, not a massive amount of progress in the last week, will be picking this back up. Having made the mistake of leaving the plane unattended The wife has tidied up and the rear wheel is now nowhere to be found.
Will have as little think here perhaps something can be fashioned from some spare...
OK,
So we're pretty much there on the assembly, some tamiya tape used to mask off the canopy, and as suggested by Doug, some sanding and filling was required for the wing joins.

That's rather lovely, and I fear setting the bar rather high :D
My effort is likely to be a little more basic, however, the model is so far coming together without too much fuss
Jambo
Thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye out for that!
Cheers for the encouragement all, Office is together and 2 fuselage halves are setting now, it's nice to have the detail from the dials, but they sometimes come up a little larger than the panel. So far no major gotcha's:

OK,
So, popped along to hobbycraft and had a little look through. I considered the starter kit for the BF109E-3 with paints, but the E-4 box kit looked like it would have a little bit more detail called out for paint as it wasn't trying to hold the whole thing down to 4 colours, and I thought...
I have a week off work so fancy a quick build for something to do that's not going to take longer than a couple of days or it'll end up on hold. A little 1:72 bf109 would probably fit the bill, and cunningly it looks like Airfix have a few recent kits to choose from, I shall swing by hobbycraft...
Looking good, I'm working on the Lotus's engine now, can I ask what you used for the fuel pipe? I'm not sure I've got anything the right sort of diameter. I made the job nice and easy by snapping a set of the injectors on the sprue while trying to get clever and remove the sprue to prime them...
When I saw this GB coming up I decided to have a scout about and settled on this Tamiya kit, the Lotus 78. This is the later edition of the kit which includes some PE parts which I've not used before. While I'm sure there will be some challenges I'm hoping the kit will go together fairly easily...
Having just built a matchbox Beaufighter as part of the 70's group build let me know if any spares or transfers are helpful, I got a decent sheet of transfers and only used the Burma ones.

I'm no expert but they seem to be good from what I can see. If you're looking at some check out scalemates website as some are fairly old kits re-released with new transfers and some PE parts to bring the detail up a little, when this happens the model on the box changes so it's pretty easy to...
