I have made a start on the hull.  The pipe on the side is a fuel pipe for the aircraft it carries

The hull and send are ready to paint.   I have removed the bollards and vents, as they will be replaced by photo etch

A bit of work on the metal decks that come part of the photo etch and spraying the hull

hull.jpg

The first coat of the blue.  Didn't bother to mask the red part as when I spray the red, you get a graduation in the red colour

The deck plates painted blue with the anti-slip pattern in black.  Unfortunately, as I was taking the mask off one piece, half the paint came off with it, so I am havingto redo this piece

The deck witht he masks.  The piece that I have had to redo is top row, 2nd from right.

Here is the latest update.  I have finished painting the hull and added a little bit on rust, where the anchor and anchor chain will go and added the wooden deck.  BTW I haven't hijacked this thread, it's just that I have found my old login and am using this from now on.

This is the first bit of superstructure with the brass added.

The bits placed before painting.  I bought some solder paste and soldered the bits onto their bases.  It give a very strong join.  Still need to use cyno on smaller bits.

The bits burnished before painting.  The lighter bits around the join is the solder.

The main guns with brass barrels.  The barrels have been burnished.

A little bit of an update, I have made 2 of 8 20mm oerlikon.  Each one take about 1 hour to make.  I normally use a telephoto lens to get closeups, but as it doesn't focus any more, I bought a 2 in 1 marco / fish eye lens for my mobile phone camera. This is what I used to take these pictures.  They are made by Aukey

The funnels are finished, here is one, the other is similar.

The funnel caps photos were taken with a phone camera macro lens, which explains the curved edges of the photo etch hold and bend tool

The funnel is only placed.  The first pair of oerlikons installed.

Gosh that is some fantastic detail work there Graham.
I so hope that you are going to be there for the Ship GB next year: I feel your skills will be of great help to many of us mere mortals... ;)

A bit more done.  The fore funnel is now stuck on, the bridge is just placed on the deck.  Before I stick the bridge on I need to rig the funnel and fit the twin oerlikons.

The bridge and the fore funnel is complete and rigged.  The photos are a bit light and the colours are a bit darker than shown here
