I have just watched episode 1 of this 2-parter and found it very interesting. Others might also. It follows the men of a tank crew during the N. African and Italian campagnes. Lots of battle scenes with movies of various tanks. It will be repeated on 24 November at 23:00. Besides showing tanks in action (and it is quite an exciting story about WWII) it has details of various types of tanks which might help modellers.

Episode 1, BBC4 (repeat): http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01pvbds

Episode 2, BBC4 (new): http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01pzv78 and no doubt repeated as well.

Having watched several of similar films and trying to imagine the ghastly conditions (and if that wasn't enough, being shot at as well!), I admire the stoicism of the men and their bravery. We live in another vastly more comfortable, relaxed, carefree, fun-filled, wealthy and possibly more trivial age than they came from as they joined up with enthusiasm and a smile. Without wanting to be controversial, I wonder if their age-group today would go like such lambs to the slaughter. Myself, if I were 20 today, I wouldn't, certainly not with a smile. I'd probably have to be forced.

Thanks for that Steve, I too will watch it.

And whilst I agree with you, I can't help but wonder if those who fought in WW1 & before didn't think much the same about their 20 somethings! ;)

Unfortunately, I can't watch this in the US, but I have seen it. Very good documentary. I can't even begin to imagine what it was like to go through what those men went through.
