Never used hannants and never will in my opinion they seem to be abit of a monopoly in the model world I imagine the money they make could pay for their own postage service . I would sooner give the small business my money as you seem to recieve a lot better service . I have received glues paints thinners etc via the Royal Mail recently and my postmen always remain very helpful and friendly and none of them have two heads due to any chemical reactions from parcels carried what a nanny state we are becoming sneezing will be prohibited next !

considering royal mail specialise in letters, doesnt paper catch fire quicker than a sealed tinlet of paint?

When ever I've bought of ebay and its second class post ,you have no idea when its going to arrive it could take anything up to 7 working days .

There is no consistency.

However if it comes by courier whoosh its there the next day.

So I think a courier service is much more reliable than snail mail even if its a tad more in cost.

And Im seriously considering it as normal for all post as an option.

And if the PO continue rewriting the rules in this manor does it give a new life to Local Hobby shops.

Quite possibly, if not, then trade at model shows. I certainly now look to ways of getting paints/thinners/etc from LHS or shows. Yes, there are petrol costs, but for the shows I don't worry, and for the LHS, in my case, petrol costs equals (approx.) the postage costs.

Bring back the LHS,(it should be the law every town has a LHS)

what better boyhood memory than nose pressed up to the shop window saying to your mate, "Im having that one,no no that one."

And even now when I go to a new town Ive never been too I also go on Google map to see if there is a LHS before I go there ,just in case.

And yes I must agree that now days I do got to shows with the intention of spending 20 to 50 pounds or more on supplies, whether I need them or not.

I rarely buy models at shows because it is more likely that I can get it cheaper on the net including the postage.

I've never bought from Hannants because there are plenty of alternatives.

I did go for a day out to Felixstowe with the intention of popping into Hannants and was very disappointed with the layout, dark and disorganised after all it was a warehouse and not a conventional model shop.

I find it second nature now to internet shop and compare not just the price but all sorts of other reasons.

If I'm right my nearest LHS is in Southend which is 17 miles away and a time consuming journey because of traffic lights (the A13 must have the world record).

Model zone in lakeside was but its gone.

I dread to think what it will be like in 10 years.

I must be lucky as I have a LHS just a few miles away and they stock everything I need also if they don't stock it they can get it for me and I just go and collect it

As it happens, I just had to placed an order for something. no bigger than a phone and 2nd class mail was £3.70 .

I did it on reflex without thinking I don't normally look at postage

You've got me thinking now.
