Pete, apologise, for part hijacking your thread, keep it coming buddy, I can't get over your hairy stick skills... Do you paint your dio's the same way or using rattle cans ?
Hi Brad, I use hairy stick for everything no A/B or rattle cans, sometimes use my truted yard broom and if I feel autistic I use a artex roller for that perfect finish as you an see on all my models. :smiling3::smiling3::smiling3::smiling3:

Pete,
Would you like to put together just a small tutorial on making palm trees, this is one of the reasons I do not do diorama's, got the books but the knowhow evades me.
Cheers, Mike.
Hi Mike I think I've read is wrong, you want me to do the totorial,a step by step joby, l thought you were looking for books or someone who knew how to make them. I can it will have a lot of pictures, l not very good with the written word.

Pete, Brad,
Please do not worry about doing them, I know how hard it is to describe in writing what you can do physically, your photos are worth a book and are a great starting point. After I finish my current build I am going to build a palm tree and let you both loose on it as my critics.
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi small up date.

I've scraped the trees and the dio completely, now it's just tank.

Gloss coat on and applied the decals.

Hi Mike and anyone else that might be interested in how I make my palm trees, this is my very first tutorial. (the palm trees I made earlier I have scrapped they are to big in the trunk and needs more leaves on top) So I hope these will be better.

The trunks and branches are made from copper wire ( I have use cooker wiring it has 7 strands but anything will do), the leaves are made from 1" ordinary masking tape. The trunk are wrapped in Das clay and then textured.

Lower branches are cut to 10" long.

Leaves x 7 are made from 1"x5" masking tape, mark halfway 2 1/2". Lay copper wire in the centre and double over the masking tapeback onto itself, cut a palm shape and then cut along the outer edge to finish. Paint to your own colour specifications.

Trunk is cut is to 11" long.Tape one end and at 3 1/2" in from the other then carefully splaey the wires out to make the top branches the leaves are added in the same way as the lower ones.

Bend all the leaves to shape and tape all 7 of them under the top ones.

More to follow.

Pete,
Tank looking better, with a few stickers on it.
Tracks - look great. What paints/colours do you use on them?

The previous trees looked good - the second tree looks fantastic :thumb2::thumb2:
