right chaps, just finished my first attempt at a amt ertl 66 olds. now, been following all the tips on you tube on painting, laquer, wax and it looks bloody good for a first go. after two days of staring at it and feeling smug, i now hate it and think it looks like one of those burago toys. i want realism.... im too old to roll around on the carpet making vroom noises. how can i tone it down and make it look like a bog standard road car. supplies include citadel devlan mud, badar black, sepia, ogryn flesh and vallejo light grey washes. or shall i just zip over it with a brown through the airbrush?

Sorry Rob, with not being into cars I have only just seen this. If you haven't already done anything to it, do you have some piccies of the beastie? That may give folk an idea of the 'toy-fullness' of the vehicle.

Hi Rob,

Shame on you Sir, you are NEVER too old to play with toys, I still do and love it...

As Si, mentioned, any chance you could post some photos of it please, you could always try weathering it...

well, managed to weather it up a bit. used some tamiya powder to get an initial key and then gave it some citadel washes. i wish i had taken a photo of how it was before cos the paintwork came out great for a change! i used a vallejo black primer, vallejo model colour mixed with mettalic medium, halfords clear laquer and turtlewax to finish. to be honest this project was a practice run for a piece im doing in the new year.....keith moon driving his rolls into a swimming pool!

Nowt wrong with that Rob, superb looking vehicle. The weathering looks good but without a 'before' shot it is hard to compare. Still, if your happy that's what really counts mate.

Great weathering job, great to see a used car instead of factory finished!

Rob that looks just real. Great distressing & weathering job.

Matter of interest the headlamp design just looks like a Ford Escort I had & in green slightly darker than yours i would guess 1980's or there abouts. Also reminds me that some one, some rotter, broke into it when up in Scotland.

I like that, as said above it makes a change for a car to have a bit of wear and tear rather than a pristine finish, I personally like the ''used look''

Have a great build doodab from me.!

Depends who's biography you read and who's telling the story as to what the car was, I've read a few and they all differ. Even Daltrey told a different story on top gear as to what was in his book (maybe this might have something to do with wacky backy or summot:smiling3:)

Some state Rolls Royce, some a Lincoln and others a Cadillac .... Seems to depend on the nationality of the story teller.

The confirmation, I believe, would be the bill from the Michigan holiday inn and the police report that both state it was a Lincoln continental limousine.

I'm not into cars but that is really well painted and it's refreshing to see one a bit banged up

A really great build

thanks everybody for your kind words. gonna stick with the rolls on my keith moon dio purely because its more recognisable to the story that most people know of. many believe it was a myth and that he actually drove it into the foyer of a hotel. even his chauffer and right hand man dougal butler agrees that it never happened. but then daltrey swears he did and even says that he saw the bill for the damage. be nice to think he did though!

Would that be the very same rolls he billed to the Who Group so he didn't have to pay for it? :smiling3: one of me favourite. Bands the Who

Yeah you're right rob, it is more ''rock and roll'' for it to be a rolls......

Looking forward to the build.

In one of his more ''non-chemicle'' influenced moments moon said he got into the Lincoln and took the brake off, the car rolled backwards through the fence around the pool and ploppped in the pool, he couldn't start it as there were no keys in the car and he was too wasted to get the brake back on.

What ever did happen... Its a story that'll live on forever :smiling3:

Hi Rob,

That looks really nice, looks like they've just driven across country, maybe they drove down the old Route 66...

Nicely done, it's quite unusual to see a car with weathering, I think you got it spot on. :smiling3:
