A bit late, but here is my contribution to the group build, the USS New York. Here are some sprue shots, there are more sprues, but most are duplicated. There is photo etch included, but I seem to have mislaid it, or it got thrown away when I was clearing up from my last build, so I have got the Pontos detail up kit.

This is the colour scheme I will be using

The next 4 are duplicated

This looks good Graham. Not aware of this kit or ship, is it the same class as the Arizona?

So how does one get a wood deck to fit over all those fittings on the plastic deck....
Looking good by the way

There are lots of small cutouts to remove from the deck, and then very carefully lining up the cutouts, with a good dose of swearing as it goes slighty askew and you have to remove it and start the placement again.

Started to do the guns. This is a 20mm oerlikons. There are 42 to do, I have done 4 and that took me 2 hours.

I have finished the guns, yippee!

Here are the quad 20mm bofors,

and the 5 main guns. The barrels are burnished, but will be painted

This is the start of the catapault, a small kit in its own right, there are about 50 pieces. I bought this Model Craft universal work holder to replace a small vice I had been using. I wish I had bought this sooner, it makes holding pieces like this so much easier.

Here's an update, the main bridge and the cranes are made, and the hull has been painted 5-H (haze grey) and masked for the 2nd colour H-O, (Ocean Grey). Once I have put the last colour on 5-N (Navy Blue), I'll then mask the hull for the red and black waterline.

Finished painting the hull, next onto replacing the bits I cut off with photo etch. Progress will be a bit slower, if that's possible, as I have just had an op on my right shoulderhull6.jpg hull7.jpg hull8.jpg hull9.jpg

Your build is progressing nicely. I like the workholder. Where did you get yours from? Looks really useful.
Cheers

Thanks,

I got the holder from HobbyCraft. It's the Model Craft universal work holder.
