Pushing things along a little bit, I had a try at thinning the fin braces for the bombs...

Then I put the undercarriage assembly together and set it to dry resting roughly in place ready to be painted separately later...

After that was sorted, I shot some primer on it...

And got that bright Russian blue on the underside....

Incidentally, whilst dry fitting I discovered a large amount of fresh air where the tailplanes attach to the rear fuselage and went looking for some pictures of the real thing..... For discussion purposes only, it looks like there is indeed a gap in the fin/tailplane interface.....

I also found this interesting picture of some young ladies getting ready to go on a date with the Germans. Again for discussion purposes only...

I see more painting in the immediate future...... Thanks for looking in.

That's coming on very nicely. Incidentally, the Shuttleworth Collection has one of these. I have some pics somewhere if that helps.

Managed to get the upper surfaces painted. Went with Tamiya colours NATO Green and NATO Black as they were to hand.

Pondering on a clear coat of some kind, but there are not too many decals to go on this one.

Thanks for looking in..

Looks great Nick. Nice shot of the night witches as well :thumb2: One of their members clocked up over a thousand missions in these birds.

In fact,
looking again, I think that’s her at the front of your picture. Irina Sebrova was her name.

Excellent work nick , sorry to say Ive only just caught this one , october when the build started was a busy time for me so I missed it completely. Fantastic choice of subject , I did a po2 of the night witches ages ago , its a brilliant piece of history , fascinating and inspiring . I really got into it and the bravery of these women was incredible . Cheers tony

Deadline day.

The build has limped a little further in the right direction.

20231231_114728.jpg

Hoping to get the top wing fitted later and then hopefully get some pictures in the completed section tomorrow. After that I might use the airframe for a bit of rigging practice but no guarantees on any pictures of that!

Thanks to all who followed along.

Nick
