1/32 Lancaster Bomber Build Update 11

Hello peeps long time no posts so here is the latest this has taken me 2 months to get to this stage after trying various ways of simulating writing on munitions this is what I came up with
Using Microsoft Word and 2 pt font I typed in the required text made a tube of the text then slid it over the flare glued it then satin varnished it the result is pretty damn good even though I say it myself

At last the previously mentioned flares are now mounted inside the fuselage where they should have been 2 months ago

1/32 Lancaster Update No 13

Hello me again right I thought I would explain and show you the construction of the 2nd main wing trailing edge
The model parts come in flat laser cut plywood sheets the same as I presume frame and plank in the model ships construction all you have to do is cut out the remaining small tab to release the part from the main sheet as in the attached photos and like our plastic counterparts there is some cleaning up to do before dry run and final glue run removing extraneous bits of wood etc and ensuring a nice flat clean surface so the glue bonds properly and word on the glues being used firstly I use C&A to tack the part into place then run white pva over it as well as i have heard superglue has a limited bond holding properties over a period of several years which is why I use pva as well
So onto the photos the 1st 3 show some sort of drain covers added to the fuselage flooring which I managed to loose all 3 of them so these were fashioned out of a 6mm dowel rod the floor has been rivited using the trumpeter rivet making wheel the effect is subtle but visible and looks quite realistic after that like said is the construction of the 2nd main wing trailing edge

Regards

Colin

Out of curiosity I checked up on the kit you're building and I was really surprised to see that it consisted of no less than 125 weekly publications?!
That's 2.5 years worth of collecting issues and the risk of misplacing a couple parts for sure!

This makes this build even more impressive and I don't even want to think how much it costs...

I'm in for this marathon build for sure and it's certainly a really interesting piece of kit!

Yep that was over 8 years ago I think the price then was £4.99 if I recall so 125 x say £5 - special price for the 1st issue of 50p and issue 2 £1.99 equates to about £492.00 see picture for issues 60 to 125 the other 59 have been opened and binded up and the model parts are in a large shoe box for safety

£500 isn't too bad considering all the parts and the information/data on the Lancaster, just a shame you can't just order a complete kit. I don't think so anyway...

I'm eagerly following your build because it's an exciting one for sure and I can't wait to see when it's time to wrap it in aluminium!

Lancaster 1/32 Build Update 15

So here's the completed Camilla rest bunk the starboard trailing edge it's upside down and an oxygen bottle and this is the problem there should be 6 each side and the one shown according to my research is wrong it's too small you could fit 8 of these along one side of the bench so these are in actual fact closer to the crews portable tanks which as there are 8 of them would be correct but again for that they are slightly too large
Whoever researched this model for Hatchett publications either got it wrong or Hatchett got the scale wrong so its back to the trusty old 6mm doweling whittled down to size required

Regards

Colin

Lancaster 1/32 Update 16

Hello everybody just for my own satisfaction I decided that the flares in the fuselage needed some sort of strapping on them as they currently look like they are hovering in the racks see 1st picture
2 hours later and loads of swearing I have made and attached the so called strapping made from the foil end cap of a Pringles tube which I chose as it was made from foiled Mylar which seemed to conform to the required purpose see 5th picture
Tonight I have just painted them see 8th picture and the oxygen tanks also finished is the starboard trailing edge incorporating the dingy stowage area and finally the Camilla Rest Bed when the bottles are fully dried they will be attached underneath the bunk

Regards

Colin

1/32 Lancaster Build Update 17

Hello again the continuation of my build I have now finished my version of the backup oxygen supply whether it is correct I can’t say but I have based it on 2 weeks of research so here goes
1st the finished tanks have a hole drilled into the centre then a staple suitably shortened and bent is glued next all the tanks are glued onto a scrap of wood suitably shaped and painted next the tanks are interconnected using more staples again suitably sized and bent then small back pieces are added and finally another long staple is glued along the back
Next I rolled out some milliput into a long about 2mm diameter roll this was then glued onto the staple framework and painted copper
Next the small portable cylinders were given clock gauges at the top to finish them off as well
Both sets were then glued into the finished Camilla Rest Bed

Regards
Colin

1/32 Lancaster Bomber Update 18

Greetings
Sorry for no post for about a month been ill with flu and needed some time away from the bench to recover fully
So here’s what’s happened so far

Added the final detail to the flare holders in the fuselage by adding some small wire lengths painted to resemble webbing loops which would hold the flare in place on its bracket

Next I moved onto the forward fuselage where the main table is situated and like another person on the web I have added a 2 mm strip all around the edge to give the table some definition obviously it will be painted to match when work is complete for that stage

Finally for this bit I also modified one of the seats firstly I sawed off the supporting legs and filed them flat and smooth as it would appear it is attached to the main table by way of an arm and swivel I have scratched built this using a bit of clear spru then drilled into the spru and glued in a suitable length of whittled down toothpick which also then glued into another piece of round spru stuck on the end of a length of scrap wood from the kit

What I have to do next it attach the arm to the table using another bit of toothpick and spru to form the final swivel the pictures show it better than the words not sure what to do with the other seat yet as far as I can tell it dosen’t attach to the table the way the 1st one does so will have to a bit more research on that

Regards

Colin
