Hi all well it's finally finished.
Just one question, I know which one goes on the main mast from the box art but where do these other flags go.

That had turned out nicely despite all your dramas and you have reminded me to finish my cutty sark.
And as for the flags I have had a Google but can't find any pics yet

Lovely job, I always like a fully rigged ship model.

The four small flags are maritime signal flags, they appear to be an odd selection if I remember correctly. From left to right in your picture;

W ; I have a medical emergency
K ; I wish to communicate with you
J ; I am on fire and have a dangerous cargo onboard, keep well clear of me
P ; In harbour, all persons should report on board as the vessel is about to put to sea.

But I am afraid I cannot help with where they were flown on the Thermopylae.

The Red ensign although you have 2 one with a symbol on it and a normal one hangs from the very end line on the stern thats the line running down the back of the big wedge shape sail on the mizzen mast according to pictures I have managed to trace down as to the others no sign yet
Which flag you use is down to you and depending on which way the wind is depicted blowing from flags and streamers had 3 positions limp when no wind pointing backwards when the ship was running faster than the wind blowing and it would point fowards when the wind was stronger than the foward momentum of the ship and sometimes they aligned themselves to the angle the sails would swing round to or so I read in one of the old airfix kits I think it was HMS Prince where they gave you detailed instructions on the placement of the numerous flags and streamers for that kit

Regards

Colin

That, Ken, is one superb looking model. Top marks for sure.

Flags? As long as I pointed them facing forward in the wind direction, I wouldn't be bothered what they signified or where they were flown from - but that's just me!

I'd be just chuffed with what I had achieved in creating such a wonderful looking sailing vessel.

Beautifully done Ken. All round stunning work; the rigging and sails look very realistic. Love it!
