These are my first scratch build models. I never did really good with plastic models, and I found my scratch builds to be my favorites.
I have only three of the four left and right now my grandparents have them. There is a fourth that is still around, and a close friend has that.
At the top is a cruise liner, I did that when I was 9. The middle is a freighter, and I did that when I was 12. At the bottom is an unfinished hovercraft idea I came up with, and I did that when I was 15.
Most of the scratch builds I did were much larger than that. IIRC the largest was maybe 3' long. All were made for water use and were waterproofed and ballasted to look real. A couple had electric motors and one got the R/C of a JC Penney's USCG Cutter from the Christmas catalog (thanks Grandma! Sorry I destroyed the cutter!).
I used to have pics of the larger scratch builds, but I can't find them anywhere.
Here's close ups of the models-
Freighter-
Cruise liner-
I don't have a close up of the hovercraft.
