Stripping Chrome

Hi All,

No doubt this has been covered before ........ But, can antone tell me if there is an easy way to strip the chrome off plastic parts ???? ....... Ideally, something I can just dip the little buggers in and it'll vanish away so I can paint them.

Household bleach will strip it in minutes use it neat it'll do the job perfectly.

Give them a good wash in soapy water and your ready to go

Hi Peter i to use house hold bleach & it works a treat, just leave it in the pot job done.

Yep , good old cheap household bleach thick or thin , it will work a treat .

It worked a treat. 5 minute job .............. and now the Lambo has "Titanium Gold" wheels ....... Well at least the first coat anyways.

Its surprising how much 'chrome' covers the detail in parts! I hate chrome parts because of this.

A lot of people are suggesting bleach and by the sounds of it, it works fine. An alternative is drain cleaner. It'll eat the chrome off and leave the styrene intact as well. I believe it is an overnight process though. I've personally never tried it either.

I looked this up in one of my company manuals (I work for a company that builds landing gear). They specify the alkaline reverse current method.
