Hope not, Allen said they didn’t hold food.....
They look too light for munitions, so that avenue is closed, and almost everything else could simply be slung in the back of a Blitz or similar....
Ladders are intriguing, so perhaps something in the communications field , perhaps for telegraph wire work?

Definitely. My experience with almost all these kinds of picture archive sites is that you can browse them more or less randomly (by general topic at best) and find good photos between a lot you’re not interested in, but trying to find a photo of something specific — let alone a specific photo — is pretty much impossible.

You don't want to know how many hours I've spent in them researching projects Jakko, Really!!!

By the way: are the trailers intended for carrying bread?

Jakko, No, no bread in these two...…..

Still occasionally using logic here, in between flights of insanity, it must hold something that needs to be kept dry (it’s a covered trailer), isn’t that heavy (they are lightly constructed), or is not able to be transported in a standard covered truck....I can’t think of anything that has those characteristics but That requires such disparity of trailer sizes?

Tim, I can say that the big trailer was used at battalion level and the small one at a lower level.

I will give you all another clue. Little trailer F 110, Big trailer F 108...

Not too shabby Tim!!! But false just the same......

Allen, you win. This is getting ridiculous because it’s impossible to research these things unless you already know what they are (or so I assume). Even the seemingly pretty comprehensive http://www.kfzderwehrmacht.de/Hauptseite_deutsch/Anhanger/anhanger.html doesn’t help one bit, and that’s the best thing I could find via Google — every other site I’ve found has been pretty much completely useless.

Hi Allen...this may not be correct:confused: but is it a Dietrichwagen used by german equivalent of the 'concert parties'???.......they were used to store and transport Marlene Dietrich lookalikes to entertain the troops...u only need a couple of lookalikes for a small unit ...hence the little dietrichwagen(zwei) but u need loads for a battallion..larger dietrichwagen(zwanzig)...oh, the ladders...needed for a rendition of Lili Marlene in the field when no lamplights available to stand under....cheers Marty

Good Morning Gentlemen,

I thought the designation #'s would give it away. Here are the answers...
F 108 Cable Trailer Large.jpg
F 108 large cable trailer and...………..
F 110 Cable Trailer Small.jpg
F 110 Small cable trailer...
When the V2 rockets were fired, they burned up the cables attached to them. New reels were needed to replace them, hence these trailers. Paul also had a great answer. Tim was getting warm on his answers. Jakko was also close on the Anhänger web site. These trailers and vehicles for V2 units didn't have normal designations. The used position #'s F, instead of Sd. Kfz. or Sd. Anh. #'s. F=Fahrzeuge and they fell under the topic FR troops (Fern Rakete) in references…..

As for who is up next, I think Marty should be for his totally wonderful answer that couldn't be further from the truth! Tim was a close second. Over to you guys.

Thanks for playing
Prost

Have you tried googling for them? Because I did:

See, this is why the Bundesarchiv site is crap. It has eighteen pages on trailers/hangers-on (since the German word translates as both) and 85 or so photos among those from Peenemünde, where you’d expect a trailer like this to appear. And yes, there are several trailers in the Peenemünde section, but none of them that look like these.

That explains why I couldn’t find them there:

I suppose this would have been a Kabeltrommel-Anhänger (2 achs.), for which, as you can tell from the screenshot above, the site doesn’t have a page …

Aw, come on John, once I saw the answer I could have told him as well LOL

Actually Tim, Scottie and John did know the answer before I posted the pics here. Scottie sent me a set of cable reels with etch for my build and I sent him the pic to show him what was possible and the same pic I sent to john after telling him how nice it was of Scottie to send them and if I had 40 more cable reels, I could scratch the big trailer (NOT)….

Hi Jakko,

Seeing how the whole project was top secret and actual combat photos of operational V2 unit are most rare, it is difficult to find anything. I have been researching this for over a year and the info today is astonishing as opposed to 15 years ago. Most photos found are from Peenemünde and the test launches. Most people see the pictures from the 3 test launches by the British in October '45 and think they are really German launches. I have poured over so much info in German and English I can't even remember where I got the Designation #'s from for the equipment, but they are correct and I have the list I made. The Anhänger site is in the same boat I guess as you can see there are very few pics of the Anhängers under the FR Einheiten. Lastly, google was only a minimal help with all this research. My interest in the V2 started over 40 years ago with that damn Revell kit I bought…………………………

I must say, though, that I found an even better trailer on that site:

It’s easy enough to identify if you recognise what the equipment is for, or know what those men are doing (which amounts to the same thing) but I find it very funny that the German army even had a trailer this specialised. (Since I linked the photo to the page, we’ll not count this one as a question — it’s the turn of @Marty after all.)

Oh god, I can’t identify that one either.....and going to the site doesn’t help ‘cos I don’t speak German. The middle bit of kit with two operators looks like a spud rumbler though.....
Cheers

That makes the big vat on the right a deep fat fryer.....if the highland division had captured it they simply wouldn’t have found enough mars bars.....thinking again, could this be the near mythical Bratvurstvaggonen

Oh yeah, I forgot not everyone does ;)

According to the page, it’s an Anhänger (2-achs.) zur Herstellung von Wurstkonserven, which translates as (and this is for real) “Trailer (2-axle) for Production of Preserved Sausages”. The men on it are therefore butchers (note the aprons), which I’m not surprised to see in an army, but ones this specifically made me smile.
