Vultee Vengeance mk2 1/72 Finished pics

Heres my contribution to the Pacific SIG group build, the Revell reboxing of the old 1/72 Frog Vultee Vengeance .It is finished as G-RA 'mustapha' of no. 24 sqn RAAF , as used by the australians in new guinea in precision dive bombing of jungle targets.Although not a well known aircraft it performed a sterling job in the hands of the australian pilots and was a great help to the ground troops fighting in the pacific islands. Cracking Tony, a beautiful build of a not often seen aircraft.

One question though, why has it got what appears to be exhaust staining so far down the wing and on the wheel. Is it something to do with engine start-up? I only ask because you did a photo that made a point of showing it.

Cheers tony, the brown on the wing and wheel is mud , the aircraft fighting in new guinea were based on rough grass airstrips , which could get very messy with the frequent tropical rain storms , cheers tony

Thanks dave!, AZ models do a 1/48 kit for about £30. Its a big machine , somewhere about the size of a Grumman avenger so a 1/48 model would be a nice manageable size , cheers tony

Cheers colin and Ian , the wings on the mk1 vengeance also had zero incidence (ie dead horizontal when seen side on) this made for a very accurate dive bomber but meant that in flight the aircraft had to be flown in a nose up attitude , proving unpopular with pilots, due to the rubbish visibility. On the mk2 they altered it to a more normal incidence for a better cruising attitude. cheers tony
