Hi all , heres the first in a series of builds that ive been wanting to do for a while. Itsthe 1950's 'Century Series ' jets of the USAF. In total there were six production aircraft, these being - F100 super Sabre , F101 Voodoo, F102 Delta Dagger , F104 Starfighter, F105 Thunderchief and the F106 Delta Dart. Ive managed to acquire all of these in 1/48 and all are Monogram kits .

This one is the F100D Super Sabre , , the tooling dates back to 1980 but its a very nicely detailed kit , the undercarriage and bays especially are superbly detailed but very simple in make up. I built it more or less Out of the box , just adding a few bits (oxygen pipe on the seat, mirror on the canopy and drilling out and extending the jet pipe as it was blanked off about 1/4 " in!)

I used Aftermarket decals as I wanted to do a Nat metal airframe with the colourful schemes common on these aircraft in the fifties. Ialso wanted t try out something new with the heat staining F100's were noted for , and used different colours of baked Eye Shadow applied with a cotton bud for this . Heres the pics , as always comments criticisms observations etc.welcome , cheers tony

Some great work there Tony. Like you, I love these old Monogram kits. Got a few in my stash. The heat staining looks realistic to me. I look forward to your other century series builds.

That is a beautiful model Tony. Cockpit detail, natural metal finish (with heat colouration), perfect decals.

The Super Sabre looks stunning.

Top work

It looks great Tony. She certainly has a 'presence' about her and certainly catches the eye.

Superb work Tony. I think you've captured the various metal shades nicely, and the heat staining is particularly well done.

I can only echo what's been said already Tony, that's a beautiful build. The heat staining worked a treat & the overall finish is first class.

OOB? You've never built anything straight from the box in your life! ;) maybe the Airfix Tomahawk  -_-

Looking forward to seeing your Thud :smiling3:

Thanks everyone for the great comments , its been a really enjoyable build and this kit defies its age with the great detail.Like graham  I love this aircraft and seeing Ians build of the same kit ( but different boxing) made me look for one , then the idea came to do all the century series , im going to do them in numerical order so next one up is the voodoo. Once again thanks for the positive comments , cheers tony

Very nice Tony. These fifties US jets are an interesting bunch and I'm starting to realise just how important they are and also their aesthetics. The Delta Dart from Meng looks very good...put that one in your stash for the future!
