Those Tiger IIs always look better with a side skirt missing You’ll probably want to remove the last rib you left on the front section, though: those were part of the skirt piece behind it, in reality just a slightly raised edge to fit over the section in front.

The second plate overlaps the first one because it has a step formed at the front end. There is no “rib” as such…..

These are not separate pieces on the real tank, but like Tim said, steps formed into each plate so it fits over the one in front, like you can see in the photo he posted. As such, the ledge would not be there at the rear of a plate if the one behind it is missing. (And, if you’ve got some thin plastic strip, you may want to re-add it the front of that same plate, where you did cut it away )

I do indeed have some various thicknesses of plastic card,so will add it to where I cut the wrong one off

Can anyone tell me why, when all of the Zimmerit on the sheet is the same "size", suddenly,when it comes to the back and front of the turret,you get an option of 2 "sizes ..

... any thoughts?.... don't suppose it really matters,I was just curious

Hi Mr. Smiff,

There could be a couple of reasons for this. Zimmerit patterns were applied by the people who made the vehicle and each company had their own pattern. Let's look at the Panther for a moment. There were 3 companies M.A.N., M.N.H and Daimler-Benz producing them and each applied their own pattern of Zimmerit. Same with the Tigger II manufacturers. I would say, go with the same pattern you used on the rest of it. Or, if you are building a Tigger II with a replacement turret, use the other one. As far as a repair job on damaged Zimmerit, I could see the front or the rear being re-applied, but both ends is highly unlikely. Just have fun Andy!!!

Maybe Fritz had one too many schapps the night before he applied it to the face and rear....Or, it was easier to apply a larger pattern with the Zimm tools in a smaller area with obstructions in the way?...Great pic!!!

I'd be tempted to think the differing patterns were due to an overhaul or upgrade, perhaps by a different manufacturer or repair unit!
End of the day, will we ever know for sure?

A'noon Guys,
Some progress from during this week..... I got all "tracked out" after doing that first side,so took a breather from them and had a bash at the turret assembly....

Fitted all the internal bits,but only really needed to do the gun assembly as it's going to only have the commander's hatch open.Then the metal barrel.....

I'm liking that a LOT,a major improvement on the plastic kit one, almost a shame to paint it!!
The turret with Zim and prickly bits fitted....


.... it's now under Halfords primer,(don't worry, I've straighten that wonky eyelet ).
A bit of tidying up to do to the Zim and then it'll get the drunken glob sprayed on .
I'll be back later today ,as always, thanks for looking in and any thoughts or plain old abuse more than welcome.

I'm..... Moving on,the upper hull is now resplendent in THAT yellow ...

... about that area then,well,thanks to Tim's kind photo uploads,I got an idea of what the engine deck grilles should look like,(the destructions are non existent for most of that area)....
.... The kit provides this....

That "mesh" is, admittedly,much better than the old Tamiya stuff,but still pretty awful imhoafter about 2 hours,(yeah,count em... TWO hours!!),I cut and tried to fit both the slithers of double sided tape,and the mesh....

...yeah,not great,but just a little tidying up thought I... then, realised that the mesh should just be cut and fitted to the other covers... with no clue to that?!!... So then I thought "bugger it", I'll just buy some AM grilles...
actually,after looking further on KT's,I don't notice any of those raised grille covers at all?!!
Anyway, I've tided up the other set it track segments and primered them with good old VJ Track primer

Yeah,I know... BORING!!,but they take AGES, therefore I'm gonna show em!!

This is the well-photographed 233 in Budapest in October of 1944, you can find several pictures of it online, from both sides, and if you know what to look for, you can spot the raised grilles fairly well:

... Tease them around with a small cocktail stick

... and after wrapping it around,you might end up with this...

Not superb, but I'm rather pleased with the outcome.
Not sure that that you can see all of the other stuff that I've done there in those pics,but I can assure you, that this will be one of my best
