Hello, this is my third Mustang build, the first one was P-51B which is my first kit and the second one was the P-51D, attempted to make it into shining finishing Red Tail but fail due to insufficient experience on painting side.

Start everything at 27 January 2016, I use Gunze 303 for the cockpit and some Flat Black, Silver, Red and White for detailing.

The engine cowling is painted with Gunze 304 - Olive Drab, I use Gaia 032 Ultimate Black as the base coat before I spray Gunze MC218 Aluminium.

Decal application done last night, although Academy provided THREE set of different marking but I only use very less of them since I've prepared my own Red Tail decals for this P-51D.

Think there is a typo near the end of the post, after 'weathering' where you mention your own decals.

Great work on the build

In case anyone thinks I'm picking up on spelling, it's a sweary word lol

This looks very well done and a good ( muskeegee) think that's right the first al black FG.

The paintwork and decals look very well done. I really like the metal look you have achieved ( I found this very hard to acheive ( lack of experience I suppose )

Very well done and well worthy of a great build if not more

Kind regards

Robert

Ohh, you need to use glossy black as base coat before you spray the chrome / metal paint.

Hello guys, some updates today:

Done Minor weathering + washing + chipping, little bit of shading & smoke effect. In the history, their P-51D are still new planes so the weathering is not really heavy, you can Google their photos and also watch the "Red Tails" film to see more!

My first idea was Wood planking airfield, and then I change to Pierced steel planking airfield. Willys MB jeep, fuel drums/cans, drop tanks, pilot + commander with some props.

The paper will be replace with laser engraved aluminium plate for the title.

IMG_20160224_230651_HDR.jpg

It's the Willys MB's engine, gun and gun mount on the wooden table.

IMG_20160224_230742_HDR.jpg

Fuel drums and fuel cans are from Academy 1/72 Light Vehicles of Allied & Axis pack. One of the fuel can are from that Willys MB jeep.

I use Varnish to make the spilled fuel glossy effect.

IMG_20160224_230753_HDR.jpg

75 Gallon drop tanks, from the P-51D itself. Academy provided two different type of drop tanks: 75 gallon drop tank & 108 gallon paper tank (which is already attached under the wings)

Fully loaded the Mustang had over a 2000 mile range.

Some resin props and scratch-build props.
