Oh look, another Protar kit I must be a sucker for punishment as this one is worse than the Ducati I built.

Some sprue shots.

White metal frame, swingarm, fork legs and stand and not bad looking tyres.

All the flexible bits for pipes, grips, cables and chains.

Chrome parts most of which I have stripped as there is very little actual chrome on the real thing.

I took this picture before taking the wrapping of as I could see a couple of broken parts and did not want to lose anything before starting the build.

You will have to bear with me as this may take some time what with trying to make head or tail of the woeful instructions, repairing a few broken bits and working out how to paint the bits before assembly.

If it is mint you would probably get a good price for it as they now sell for silly money, I got this one at a good price as the box was well bashed about and there were a couple of broken bits in it but nothing too serious.

Love A Jays - had one back in the day but definitely not a 7R unfortunately! Only cost a few quid from a mate - had it about a month then the piston seized! Then got a Matchless G50 (I think that was the number), sold it to the mate who sold me the A Jay and the same thing happened to him!I began to think there was a God ... Looking forward to this one Andy

A start has been made.
Frame and swingarm built and painted but still needs a gloss coat.

Engine assembly, each fin on the barrel is individually fitted before fitting the cylinder head parts.

Now for the wheels, only 10 parts on each one!

Wheels and other bits in primer, unfortunately as the hubs are black there will be a fair bit of fiddly brush painting to do.

Waiting for paint to dry I got the basic engine put together and some of the plumbing in place.

The soft rubbery stuff provided in the kit was a bit rubbish so I replaced the tubing with some I had left over from other kits, later I will go and do some more painting of the wheels.

I like what you done so far, looks like quite a detailed kit judging by the amount of cylinder fins, cam cover and engine look great together
good luck with the wheels...
simon
There is a fair amount of detail but the model is spoiled by parts that don't fit, some parts wrongly numbered on the sprues and the instructions are................how can I put this politely? a bit on the vague side but that's modelling, nothing like a wee challenge to keep you on your toes. You may find this hard to believe but this kit is slightly more of a pain than the Ducati but I will get there.

Engine/gearbox in the frame, had to open out the mounting holes on the engine as they were too small for the 1.4mm screws.

As you can see from the picture the drive chain does sit properly on the sprocket, you have to fit the chain before fitting the swingarm as the chain is one continuous length as is the primary chain and here comes the problem....................
Engine sprocket, chain and clutch assembly.
52667717453_9056144315_h.jpg

Primary chain.
52667717058_80b7782b9d_b.jpg

The chain has no slots in it to fit over the sprocket teeth so I will have to reduce almost half the teeth on both sprockets to make it look like the chain is fitting as it should, a job for another day as I have has enough of this tonight.
