Hi all. Got a little done this weekend. The Thunderbirds seem to have had lots of different designs for their seat and intake covers, so I've used a little artistic license ( and a spare decal! ) and come up with this. I think it turned out quite well, so added a matching HUD cover too.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the result. Hopefully close to getting some colour on it soon....

Cheers, Neil

Nice job on the seat cover neil , and the extra detail in the U/C bays is superb. Are you going to go the whole hog and have a FOD cover on the intake too? (and seeing as youre pimping it with the seat covers ,how about some furry dice and a sun visor with the names on , maybe "neil + swmbo " ) ;) ;) cheers tony

To be honest Tony, I've been thinking about the intake cover. I'd quite like to do one as there's a bit of an ugly seam left in the intake, but the ones I've seen have all had some sort of emblem on them or been quite complicated schemes. If I can come up with something, I think I will though.

The furry dice and sunstrip may be a but tricky in 1/72, but if a 1/24 MK1 Escort or similar finds it's way into the stash, who knows...... ;)

Nice work Neil. The intake cover shouldn't be too hard. You could almost do one out of masking tape.

Hi all, just a small update. Just tweaked the missile rails to look a little more in scale.

In other news, I think I may have buggered up the canopy ! I was trying to be clever and tried dipping it for the first time. Went ok, but seemed to come out with a couple of air bubble and a hair in it !! It was then pointed out to me that I'd dipped it in Humbrol gloss cote, not clear as I thought I'd bought !! It didn't look too bad, but then I had the bright idea of maybe tidying it up with some white spirit and ended up pulling gloops of sticky stuff off it, and snapping one of the rear mounting "legs".

So, managed to take off all the gloss cote, and repair the snap, bit it's left the canopy distinctly foggy. I've bought some clear and given it a coat of that, which has improved it a l ittle. I'll try another coat, but I'm not holding my breath !! So things are on hold until I see how this turns out......the joys of modelmaking !!

Cheers, Neil

I've given it a couple of coats of clear Joe and it kinda sort of looks ok-ish ! I think I'll just mask up the cockpit and carry on with the rest of the build for now.

Hi all. Ok, after getting the canopy to an almost acceptable condition, I now seem to have gone and lost the thing. How? I really don't know. It's not exactly small, and I've turns my kitchen ( and the one half of a cupboard I'm allowed to use in it ) upside down with no sign of it. So before I came across a hammer to do some fine modifications, I've decided to carefully pack it away, and hope the modelling gods will return it in one piece in the near or far future. I have thought of buying another kit, and maybe using the decals on a F-16D, which would make a nice pair, but then saw that Hobbyboss do the exact same thing for less than a tenner...

As a last resort, maybe an email to Academy, to see if they can supply the clear sprue by itself. If anyone has any experience of this, I'd be interested to hear.

So for now, I'm going to whip something out of the stash and see if I can get it done in the week I've got off work over crimbo. Hopefully that will get my model making mojo back !!!

Cheers, Neil

Bad news Neil. It was all going so well. The F16 has a lovely look to it and not something I've ever built, in fact I only saw one fly for my first time this year. Good luck with your search, a model this good needs to be finished. Any kids around the house ? Their eyes are often brilliant at finding missing parts.
