Well this one reached the finish line much sooner than expected. I seemed to be getting nowhere then all of a sudden it was done. Quite a feat for me to actually complete something!!

Thanks to Pete for organising this group build. It's given me my first taste of larger scale trucks and I thoroughly enjoyed it so can see me building more in the future.

The build thread is here. I started out with the Italeri 1/24 Australian Truck kit but finished it in an old school custom paint job using a mixture of Zero, ProScale, & automotive paints. (the other two are actually just highly thinned and repackaged automotive paint, but that's another story) Then finished with Mr Color GX-100 clear. I gave it 4 coats, highly thinned with Mr Levelling Thinner (about 1:4). After a few days this was sanded with a 3000 grit 3M Trizact pad and 2-3 more thin coats were put on top. The original chrome was stripped and repainted in Alclad, but once again I've found it very weak and it's already rubbed off in places so will look for an alternative.

I also added a few bits & bobs to the interior but none of it is visible now.

Thanks to all that commented along the way and I hope you enjoy the final pictures.

Due to it's size I had to get inventive for the pictures so here are thumbnails of the set up I used, and a scale shot

That is one very nice truck. Defo a keeper that one. A really superbe finish on that paintwork.
I guess this will not be your last truck?

Thanks everyone.

It was great fun to build despite a few fiddly bits so I'm pretty sure I'll be building more trucks in the future.

Beautiful. Pity you can't see the interior after all your hard work. Was there no way you could have left the sleeper cab door open?

Thank you all very much. I'm really chuffed with how it's turned out so I'm glad you like it too.

I could have cut the door open I suppose but oob they expect you to leave the roofs loose. I don't like loose flappy parts though, and it would also have left a seam across the front of the cab roof.

I'm not really one for looking at my models after they are finished anyway. It's so large it'll probably get stuffed straight in the loft.
