Finished this at last, this is my second 1/700 ship and first go at etch detail at this scale. Hence the railings being a bit untidy in places but there is probably easier ships i should have tried for a first attempt . Anyway, a nice kit if not totally accurate, etch railings, crane and catapult and metal main gun barrels, as much rigging hopefully without going overboard using a rigging diagram for the sister ship nagato which i have and painted using mr hobby aqueous. 20230319_200958.jpg20230319_201047.jpg20230319_201148.jpg20230319_201209.jpg20230319_201316.jpg20230319_201505.jpg20230319_202035.jpg20230319_201713.jpg20230319_201744.jpg20230319_201626.jpg

Excellent result Mark.
Although a pain, the rigging has to be tackled to finish a ship off, so well done that lad. :thumb2:

Cracking build.

Lovely finish Mark rigging and all. What were the differences between the two sister ships? Were they the gun positions or the superstructure?

Cheers,

Thanks Richard, apparently mutsu had a different rear S/S and nagato had more AA mounts
Thats the thing with ships. Even same class vessels differed due to refits and modifications because of theatre of operations and roles of the vessels!! I had two different Type 81 frigates, (Tribal Class). Because of the differences we had to conduct a few weeks training to familiarise ourselves.

On merchant ships built to the same design and by the same yard, there were differences. I stood by one ship as she was being built & I knew her engine room layout intimately - I then served on her older sister later that year , and you got a weird sense of something being wrong - valves pointing in different directions, fuse boxes in different places & different light fittings. Nothing really vital, but just enough to throw you out, and make you pause for a moment
