Looking good Chris keep up the great work :smiling3:
CHEERS Bri im tryin to but this kit is puttin up a heck of a fight as its so fragile an floppy an tryin to fit these engines is a task as there are no fitment slots to show where the engines fit an how up to the big air intakes they fit so its pot luck an keep tryin with the dryfits but as soon as i move one bit the other keeps fallin out of postion so i think i'll have to tape them in place to hold them parts in the fusalarge an the instckions dont show much either wow talk about frustratin one thing for sure this is no kit for a begginer as over the yrs ive built loads of kits but never like this one even the K/H jag was a walk in the park compared to this kit but im enjoyin to see your sub build well done on the take 2

A Tomcat, but not only a Tomcat but a VF-84 Tomcat, and Marmite sandwiches - you're a man after my own heart!

So not only are you building this big beast (and my 1/48th Tomcat scares the crap out of me) you've decided to go the extra layer of hell and add electrics, LEDs and opening panels!?!? Very impressive Chris - looking forward to seeing how it ends up, it certainly sounds a challenge. :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2:

WELL Steve how can i be nutty if its a fruit cake LOL but on my models i like to try an do something differnt like make them work to a certain exstent so theres more of a challange but if others want to build them out of he box then all good for them as they do some remarkable models well done them as thats whats great about this forum we all do things different

HI GUYS well still tryin to build this big cat an things are now lookin promersin as im tryin to fit in the big engine on the starboard side to see how an where a cutout panel will be in comparance to where the engine fits an this is all at the moment loads of dry fits an as can be seen ive fitted the starboard engine cover in place an airintake IMG_9005.JPG

an here a engine has just been dry fitted to make sure im right in where i will do the cutout for the engine display panel IMG_9007.JPG

AN onece i was sure i had the postion of the cut out panel right then i found trumpy had done something RIGHT as in the engine panel they have actually thought some one would be nutty enough LOL to want to display the enginge so in the cover panel they have put in a cut along the whole lenght of the engine panel so all i had to do was run my sharp stanley knife down the cut an vollay one opening engine panel but now the hard part an thats fittin in the mini hinges so the panel can open an close an im goin to try an fit the panel so that it hinges up just like the real plane but firstly there will be more dry fits as this is goin to be very difficult as the fusalage curves so thin wont be done in a hurry an in the pic below the cut out is done an engine panel lays on the bench IMG_9006.JPG

AN overall shot of the model WITH WIP an engine an air intake just laid in for now till tomorrow IMG_9008.JPG

BUT HOLD hard i forgot im gettin ahead of myself under the starboard engine i must drill out an fit the main mini eletric plug wire it up to take power to all the lights PHEW glad i remembered that an just as well the engine is only dry fitted oh boy a lot to remember here at this stage
chrisb

Those engines are beautiful Chris. Definitely worth having them on show. Hinged covers are going to be a challenge but I'm sure you'll manage.
HI Jim nice to see you sir an yes from the out set i planned to have the engine show just the port side as thats the side where the gatlin gun an coverpanels are so the port side is the show side but i only hope this will work out as the main problem in that right where the engine cover is the fusalarge is courved so it looks like quite a bit of thought to do before i do anything Aaaarrrrgggg an thanks for stoppin an havin a looksee

AN yes Arnold i built the tomcat in 1/48th scale as it was a ACADEMY make an it was a very good build of the PUKEIN DOGS SQR an at the moment it sits on top of a shelf over my tv an it also lights up but no engines opening panels as the kit did not give engines in it

I keep dropping in to see how much further you are with this build, and you never let me down or fail to surprise me...
OH THANKS Mike glad you bein surprised by my work on this plane as there is still a heck of a lot of the build yet to come but tryin to fit this opening engine cover maybe where i come unstuck as the fusalarge is a slight curve so that means tryin to make the panel bend a bit on them hinges so it may not open an close properly as remember the real planes cover is held in place by screws an such but i cant do that so see what happens today as im goin to do several dryfits with the hinges fitted only on the engine panel until i find it does fit an the hingese must be fitted under the engine so there is a bit of space there but how much will see an have a measure up
thanks for stoppin mike

You don't like MARMITE!?!?! What!?!? You've gone down in my estimation now Chris LOL! :smiling:

Oh nice, and nice choice of scheme. I have the Tamiya kit which is supposed to be a great build but the sheer size and quantity of bits in it scares the crap out of me (Nothing compared to this beast though) as does the 'fear of mucking it up'. Stupid really.

Really liking the progress.

HI ALL well still at that big cat an she's still posein bloomin awkward to parts fittin but first pic was goin to fit in the engines an thinkin well i havnt fitted the mini power uptake plug yet so out with the solderin iron an wires an shink rap an here its now fitted in the fusalarge with the main plug but no wires fitted yet IMG_9016.JPG

an wires just taped down dont need to be pretty as it wont be seen as the engine will fit over it plus this is not the opening hatch engine panel side IMG_9026.JPG

an this is the opening engine panel an look how bad a fit it is as it should be nice smooth sides but no its stickes out by at least 1mm which is not for me so something got to be done to get it nice an or as best as possibleIMG_9028.JPG

top veiw an im not happy with it IMG_9029.JPG

So had a thunk an that panel edge must somehow be bent in to be fairly smooth fusalage panel an the only way i could see out of this was usein a diomond cutter on the ole dremel i cut up the inside of the engine mount an it gave me a gap so i glued it but as the plastic is very strong it took a good set of plyers to crimp it togeather thereby pullin the cover in about half a mm but to me it looked betterIMG_9032.JPG

an this engine panel is not just a straight bit of bent plastic far from it as its all curved which makes it harder for me to get a reasonable fit IMG_9030.JPG

SO NOW ive managed to pull the cover in a bit will now see how it fits to the fusalarge an yes its better but not how i would like it but bendin it any more i would have to cut off more of the engine mountin which i dont want to do IMG_9034.JPG

Chris, is it possible to drop the engine panel in to a cup of boiling water for a few seconds and then re-fit it and bend / shape it to how you need it to be ?
it may work a bit better than having to sand off areas with the dremel to match it up.

HI Chris no it wont work but thanks for the idea but its due to this kit is made from very hard plastic an the engine mounts wont bend on the right side of the pic so thats why i had to cut a slot in them to try an pull the panel side inwards have a look at the pics below chris an you will see what i mean but thanks for your very good idea an helpIMG_9030.JPG
