Finished - Jan Zumbachs Spitfire Vb

Hi all,

Just managed to finish this kit today and thought I'd post a few pictures.

It has actually been my practice mule over the past year and has probably been airbrushed, decaled and stripped several times in the process. So following my recent finish of the Tamiya Mk1 Spitfire kit I decided it was time to finish this build once and for all :smiling3:

I decided after many attempts that the Tamiya decals were not for me and went instead for a sheet of Techmod decals showing Jan Zumbachs ride from 303 Sq. RAF Northolt which was RF-D, EN951.

Here's a few pictures I found of the original aircraft taken back in the day and a Wiki link to Jan Zumbach himself.....

The build was pretty much out of the box using Tamiyas Vb kit but with the modification of having the undercarriage raised and the model placed onto an Italeri display stand.

The paints used were mainly Tamiya acrylic with a Vallejo matt finish, weathered using Flory models dark dirt wash, airbrushed Tamiya Smoke for exhaust and gun port staining, and a first attempt at using Tamiya Master set for exhaust rusting.

The observant amongst you will notice the pitot tube is not fitted in the pictures and there's a very good reason for that..... it's was left on the work table! Yes, I forgot to add it before taking the pictures! Please note it has now been fitted :smiling3:

Anyway, hope you like it and please feel free as always to post your thoughts, views or tips.

Very nice, I've built the same kit and it was an absolute pleasure. Even bearing that in mind, that's a cracking result!

Hi Colin

I really like your Spitfire finish and the presentation on the stand is very slick. I've never seen one of those stands before, they are very good though. I don't suppose they do a 1/32 version do they?!

Anyway back to the MkV... Great paintwork, decals superbly applied and nice understated weathering - beautiful.

Great stuff

Paul
