I'm looking at putting together a diorama for my "Desert Storm Viper" which is well on the way to being finished. Nothing fancy just a rocky desert with some scrub grass ...... But I have a question regarding scale ......... I'd like to have the Viper banking away from an armoured vehicle that it has just made a mess of ....... So I'm wondering if using a different scale would give the impression of the vehicle being in the distance or it that too much of an ask .....???? The Viper is 1/35 scale and I was thinking of having the "victim" at 1/72 scale ......... Or should I just stick on 1/35 ?????

I have something similar in the pipeline Peter - a 1/72 Stuka with 1/100 scale T-34s.

So I think a forced perspective using 1/72 armour would work for you.

Should look great in 1/72

Forced perspective is a legit tool.

Yep, as the guys have said using a forced perspective should work okay, just remember to also make the background 1/72, so small detailing, rocks etc.
