Hi all, this is the Academy 1/35 Tiger. Was a joy to build with nothing to go wrong, i added the PE grills from the Italeri Tiger (have plans for the Italeri so didn't need them). The painting on the was a frist as i used Winsor & Newton masking fluid for the paint chips, i pre-rusted the model and used a old sponge for the fluid. Didn't use the tracks from the kit because they was the late tracks so, i got individual links from Academy for £4. Well, i'll shut up and let you have a look lol.

Have fun, John

Wow..........

I can't really be more specific than that I'm afraid!

Thanks Stuart, i've run out of brass so i used gold mixed with a little green. The figures are a mix, the tank crew is Academy and the two loading is from Tamiya. In the Tamiya set you get a lot of ammo box's and two cats lol.

Have fun, John

John, I've been waiting to see this since you dropped a hint in my G.B. thread, and here it is....

What a cracker, really nice composition with superb painting and weathering.

The damage to the skirts ect, is just brilliant.

I use the Academy track links and find them easy to use, did you?

When we both joined S.M.,moons ago, do you remember the diorama I did with the Tiger, the full Tamiya loading crew and the Opel Blitz truck..I had one of the cats stood on the hull of the tank, so there!!!

Seriously mate, this is one 5* effort. Very well done.

Keep having fun,

Ron

Thanks for the five* lads, very much appreciated. You know, i love this forum. I've learnt a lot from you guys and this is what happens when i listen, take my time and most of all, have fun.

Ron, them Academy track links are brilliant and very nice to work with mate. Yes mate i can remember your Tiger build and the cat lol, i was going to have one in this too but thought i'd leave it. There is so much to see in this build i didn't want a cute kitty to take ya eye of it lol

A few photos of the build. The photo etch from the Italeri Tiger is spot on so i just had to use it on this

All in red oxide then i went mad, but there was method in the madness. With airbrush in hand and a light rust colour loaded i made a start, i then mixed up an iron colour and made a bigger mess. Then sponged on masking fluid, at this point i was scared so made sure the fluid came of the red oxide primer.

And it did, and this is what it looked like before all the weathering

Even the missis is proud of this one, infact it's made it downstairs in pride of place. The base John is made up of a polystyrene block and filler, a coat of 50/50 PVA and water so the paint with stay where you want it lol. And a lot of dry brushing.

Have fun, John

Thanks Trey, i forgot about them lol. When i fitted the tools i bent one so i got busy with the milliput and made some rags to hide the mistake. Had enough to make two rags, a rolled up flag and something to fill one of the ammo box's. 1/35 scale milliput potatoes, just roll between fingers but they don't fry to good.

Have fun, John

Lovely Tiger and a great diorama setting. It shows clearly just how effective paint chipping effects can be and how they can transform a plastic surface into what you would really believe to be a large lump of well worn metal. I can't believe it is only 1/35th when I look at it closely!

Wow! That is really superb!

The weathering is absolutely spot on.

I just hope I can produce a dio as good as that one day!

5 stars from me.

That is one beaut of a Tiger. Very nice indeed.

Paint and effects are really well carried out.

The spuds on the back might not be good chips, but I bet they would be great Baked potatos after a couple of hours onto of the engine! lol

Five well deserved stars from me to.

Thank you so much for the great comments fellas, it was a really enjoyable build this that i nearly brought another Tiger this morning lol. I kinda' refrained, i got a Sherman instead (well, it was cheaper so i got two models for the price of one). The wife loves it so much that when we have visitors she the one showing it off, can't get any better than that can ya!! Next project is going to be a little special, in 1/24 scale and it's not armour. Oh and it's going to be for the group build too.

Thanks again and have fun, John

OK you got my attention with that one.

It does give a good feeling when the misses gives permission to have a model on display In the Living Room don't it! :smiling:

It does Ian, when we (yes "we") went into the model shop she was the one that said "oh you what to see his latest work". Now that did make me feel good, and to say 90% of the stuff was from his shop lol. Yeah mate, had a fit and got 1/24 scale Subaru Impreza WRC.

Have fun, John
