Fw 190 F-8 with "Sondergerät SG 113"

Hi Guys!!

Her comes what lately left my assembly-line. Fw 190 F-8 with "Sondergerät 113".

During the war the germans had innovative ideas to fight enemy tanks from the air.

So was the "Sondergerät SG 113" developed.

It was an automatic weapon from Rheinmetall-Borsig.The shot was triggered photoelectrically. In the beginning of 1945 five Fw 190 should be equipped as a test vehicle. The weapons were mounted vertically in the wings, just behind the wheel wells.

As a result of problems with the ammunition, the development was considerably delayed.

On 27 and 28.02.1945 some testflights took place at an airfield in Böblingen near Stuttgart. There were five hits scored on a captured soviet tank.

However, after it was proven that enemy tanks in built-up areas or forests could not fight with the SG 113, the general of the battle flyer spoke out against a development of the SG 113 on 06.03.1945. In early April 1945, the work was stopped at this armament.

As a basis for this project I took Revell's Fw 190 F-8. For the SG 113 I used a resin conversion kit from Airmodel. Revell's 190 is not the first choice, but still quite useful.

The canopy is really terrible and I've also pretty messed up.

When painting, there were problems with the colors of Vallejo. Constantly the nozzle of my airbrush gun was clogged and there was no uniform spray pattern. You can see this on the lateral spot camouflage.

But I hope you still like my model! ;)

Good stuff Stefan, I'm definitely liking your model.

I'm not sure I'd fancy flying low directly over a tank to use this weapon. Here's a photograph of an Hs 129, fitted with a battery of six tubes flying about 10m over a tank to test the system!



Your Fw 190 looks really good and its a very unusual subject.

For those that don't know the "Sonder Gerat" SG 113 was a 77mm recoilless anti tank cannon.

I think this is a good looking model, even with the mishaps that have happened. The subject is something different and it looks good on the dio board.

Great job stefan ,loving the base too! ive got the revell fw 190 with Hagelkorn glide bomb in my stash , thats an interesting 'nearly was' too , cheers tony

Superb work Stefan. Interesting background info on the anti-tank armament. Is this similar to the Hs 129 anti-tank weapon that was fired (I think) when it sensed magnetic variations (a large chunk of steel or a tank) and fired automatically? Pilot must have had to have been very careful that they had the system disabled when returning to their own landing strips.

It is Joe. As Stefan says it was tested on the Fw 190 and the Hs 129. The cannon were mounted in the fuselage of the Henschel.
