You can see a potted history of the build here.

http://www.scale-models.co.uk/threads/german-but-different-do-27-serengeti.27051/

Here are a few images of the finished kit.

Michael Grzimek was sadly killed in this aircraft when he crashed following a bird strike. My next project will be a return to the war time Luftwaffe but will also feature an aircraft downed by a bird strike. Luckily this time the pilot survived.

Cheers

Hey Steve

The Serengeti Dornier looks great - it certainly looks striking.

The build looks up to your usual very high standards and all this from a kit that fought back. Great skills Steve it looks flawless! Most modellers can make a decent fist of putting together a modern 'Tamigawa' kit but it takes good ol' modelling skill to whip a kit like this into shape.

Good stuff

I agree with Paul, that's a superb result from an older kit Steve. Good to see such an unusual subject.

Very unusual looking bird Steve but very well built considering your problems , that masking would of given me nightmares but you've done a great job

Top marks on a fine build

I'm looking forward to your downed Luftwaffe I wonder which aircraft you will use :smiling3:

You've done a great job there Steve, especially considering the limitations of the kit itself.

The paint scheme is so striking it makes a lovely display model.

Amazing!

For a few seconds it looked like a real aircraft, sitting out in the field, waiting for the crew...

The paint work is very good Steve.

I "feel" something strange on this model...but I like it.

Cheers

You knocked this one into shape Steve and that paint job is very nicely done. Sadly ironic that the registration referred to a bird then:

The code of the plane was D-ENTE. ("D" stood for Germany, "E" for single engine light aircraft; they could choose the other three letters, and as they wanted an animal name, they chose "ente", German for "duck".

Very nice result Steve on an unusual looking aircraft helped in that direction by the camouflage.

Due to pressure o life I missed the build. But I would guess the landing gear may have caused a few problems !
