Moebius Iron man MkIII

I'm guessing sci-fi is the right section for this one.

First figure model i've made and thankfully don't have to worry over accurate skin tones as this kit is the Iron Man suit from the movie of the same name, this one being the MkIII suit, (the first gold and red one).

The kit is very nice, quite a rigid styrene, glues well with ordinary cement, sharply moulded detail, a few visible join lines that needed a skim of filler and some sanding but almost a snap fit assembly it was so easy.

The base is primed in rust shades and will have metallic and paint overcoats with weathering to show rust through.

The figure is primed in grey, there are a couple of areas needing further filler attention just as always then another coat of primer to cover those areas.

Progress pics so far.

I've built this kit and loved it, I have another to do but also have the MK VII and the Warmachine version to do, I'm intending to light all 3 up the LED's are pretty cheap from Maplins and they all have plenty of room for wiring etc.

Will watch your build closely to pick up more tips :smiling3:

The rust effect i'm doing is for the base he's standing on, it's a pair of cogs with assorted junkpile type detritus.

'Geek on'

the suit wouldn't rust as it's made of a specialised hyperalloy designed to withstand extremes of temperature, this came about after the initial flight tests of the MkII which iced up at high altitude with almost devastating (but great cinematic) consequences.

'Geek off'

Is it the Dragon MkVII or the Moebius MkVI Ade?

I ask as i'd like to see the MkVII, not seen a build of one yet, only the kit and wondered how it stacked up the the Moebius.

Love the war machine one, been looking at that but I really really a: can't afford any more kits right now and b: Don't need any more and need to crack on and build some of my stash.

However I was showing this one to my little fella tonight who thinks it's awesome, (naturally), so i may let him have this one then I'll have to get another, :D

Moebius released another MkIII, which I think is the most interesting suit design yet, (would love to see a MkV suitcase suit though), with a more dynamic pose as this one got some critiscism for it's rigid stance, the way I view it though is as if it's in it's 'standby' pose awaiting pilot.

I used to have 2 links saved, the first was how to light the figure up , the second was how to change his stance and arm postition. I still have the lighting one and it cost about £20 to get the bits from maplins.

I saw a build where someone spent ages remodelling the stance and just after he'd finished they released the new MkIII with almost the same stance he'd remodelled his as, that must have been annoying, his build thread showed the remodelled and the new one side by side and the pose was very similar.

I guess the trickiest bit is all the filling, puttying and shaping that would be a nece4ssity after moving parts on this kit.

I did think of lighting it but frankly i'm too lazy to do it, (though as said theres bags of room to wire it including the hand repulsors and the base will hold a circuit board and battery pack easily.

I'd have been delighted with the war machine too insttead, thing is, I wouldn't have ordered for the Black Widow kit as figure figures don't interest me so greatly unless theres a 'cool' factor, i.e. Judge Dredd, I'd consider, ABC warrior, Robocop, Terminator T800 etc

I suppose the only upside is you can tell everyone you're spending the weekend with Scarlett Johanssen, :smiling3:

So Ade, any chance of some sprue shots of the Dragon MkVII? Would love to see how it compares to this one.

I'll get some shots done tomorow, the offer was only supposed to be only the two figures they stated someone even asked on the thread if they could have Warmachine instead and the said no, guess my luck was in :smiling3: , like you I'm not a figure painter so it will be on the kit swap in November, lol

Will be watching this one with interest! It's similar at my new project 'MazingerZ'.

Are easy kits to do, the most important it's the paint work!! Are perfects to 'learn' and try new things!

I think this is the part of the forum where it's ok to leave the "geek" switched on mate :smiling3: :smiling3:

Like the detail in that kit, very nicely moulded indeed.

Tempted to get another figure myself at some point but first i have to sort out a stargate Anubis figure that was "dusted" and stick his head back on and fix his staff .... :smiling3:

Great looking kit and being a bit of a comic geek myself I shall be watching with interest. Also I've just seen a 75mm Rogue Trooper figure that's just come out...looks very cool too.

Heehee, my little fella thinks it's awesome too, I suspect I'll be losing this one to him once completed, I may have to get another, maybe the new pose MkIII suit

The grey on the armour still feels a little soft so I'll leave it longer, but the base feels ready for further paint.

Looks like a decent parts count compared to the moebius kit, be interesting to see that go together, are you building that anytime soon?

Nice clean build there oily, did you use the alclad paints?
