Revell 1/72 FW190 -F8 with BV 246 Hagelkorn

This ones a mix of black and white Daler Rowney watercolour paints which I got from Poundland ( £1 for the pair ) I added a little of the white to the black and thinned it with water and a good slosh of flow improver , all mixed in an empty bottle . Ive used the UMP washes in the past but found they can be a bit hard to get right - either wiping straight out of the panel lines or sometimes staining the paint and not coming off . The watercolours are very forgiving , if you cock it up you can just wipe it clean and start again , no staining . I let it dry overnight then start rubbing with a dry cotton bud , only dampening it if the wash doesnt come off first time.
The other one I use sometimes is Modellers oil wash , from John in the Scale Model Shop , very nice to use and cleans up easily with a bit of odourless thinners . View attachment 476534

With a big push today ive got this one finished.
The wash was cleaned up yesterday and it got a coat of Tamiya xf86 flat clear . Then I could start adding all the knocky off bits . The undercarriage was fitted with care to make sure the angle of the legs was right. The kit pitot was moulded with the wing and was cut off at the start. I replaced it with brass tube and rod .
The Hagelkorn bomb was fitted , again with care as it had to line up with the two struts on the wings . Machine guns were replaced with brass tube. The Airfix canopy was next , but the blown style as seen here had a different headrest to the kits A8 type ,this one sliding with the canopy and having an armoured shroud fitted behind it . I made the shroud from a piece of thin aluminium bent to shape over a paintbrush handle and the headrest and cushion were made from plastic card and rod. The aerial on this type of canopy was fixed to the frame and went slack when opened ( the earlier type stayed taut as the canopy slid open via a spring loaded roller system ) so this was added using fishing line. A final spraying of the exhaust stains and its done. Thanks to all who’ve been watching/ commenting ,I’ll be putting a set of completed pics up in a bit , cheers tony

Thanks david , im really enjoying the 1/72 stuff at the minute , ive got loads of 1/48 and a few 1/32 in the stash but lately I seem to be always leaning to the small stuff .

Tony as you know I'm a great fan of 72nd ,they cram almost as much detail into the more recent stuff as you'd expect from the bigger scales ,plus the added bonus they don't drag on for ages and display and storage is much easier ,I've nowhere to display mine so they get stored in takeaway containers just right for little armour builds and a good excuse to get take out. Dave
