Jon's got it. Balian of Ebelin, who with Queen Sybilla organised the defence of Jerusalem when it was besieged by Saladin's army in 1187. As portrayed by Orlando Bloom in 'Kingdom of Heaven'.

Texel 1795.
Dutch fleet were iced in between Texel island and the mainland.The 8th hussars,each trooper with an infantryman from the 15th line hanging on behind,galloped over the ice and forced their surrender.
