Anti-flash white on the belly done and a layer or two of varnish already down. Now just for the top sides in grey green camo scheme.

As always having issues with masking tape removing paint. I suspect the surface wasn't 100% clean.

RAF Finningley in the 60/70s Battle of Britain Air displays - 3 Vulcan scramble - one lifting off, next halfway down the runway & the last just opening his throttles, the ground shook - the air crackled - and the smell of burnt fuel! I first went in 1962 - the last time in 1977 ( a few years missed, though, either at college, or at sea! )
Dave
We lived 30 minutes from Finningley and was lucky enough to be there for the last Vulcan scramble, a memory ingrained for ever

I spent time working at RAF Akrotiri when the Vulcan was based there. As there was one in the air 24/7 I saw more than a few take-offs and landings. If you have ever seen a pilot treating a Vulcan like a Tiger Moth, doing aerobatics, you will never forget it. Simply mind blowing !!

Yep,
been there done that - ruined a Sea Vixen, white paint came off in huge patches! Now, I always prime & allow to dry for 24hrs before masking & overspraying! Takes more time, but saves the bad language!

Well I gave it two coats of primer Dave in the black. That was Vallejo primer so all I can assume is a. The masking tape is c**p or b. There was grease on the surface before priming which is possible. Annoy as hell though.

Vallejo primer doesn't seem to have a good reputation James. I've only used it once, and had some problems with paint coming off with the masking tape.

I've moved onto using AK primers, and not had any lifting problems so far............

I have actually a little bottle of AK, may get some more then in other colours.
I did however mask and spray sea great on top today. Using my new mixing bottle and thinning paint an awful lot more than before has changed the result so much. I tried to show panel shading but hasn't really shown up in pics too well.

James,
rather than have a lot of primers, I generally use black, light grey, or olive drab primers only ( 60ml bottles ). - If I have a bright orange/fluorescent red finish, I do use a red primer ( 17ml ).

Yeah I bought a bigger bottle of Vallejo and found it got clots in it which kept blocking my air brush. I do have a 60ml of Ammo which seems ok.
I think my primer isn't great but I was lax when it came to using gloves to handle it and I didn't clean the sprues with a hot soapy wash like I usually do.

See what happens when I unmask it as the entire underside is masked........

So this time no issues with masking etc, when it came off the only area I had a small lift was where I'd cut masking tape on the model with a scalpel.

Patience was an issue as I should have left the camo putty to settle as I have a few sharper edges than I'd like.
Does anyone here know what the difference between the camp putty and panzer putty is?

Anyway gloss varnish applied and now onto next project.

Hi James
Looks very good. Top side camo looks to have worked nicely. I gave up on Vallejo primer years ago. It wouldn't sand to an edge and came off too easily even when left for days. I now use Stynylrez.

It seems a common theme that it's not great from what everyone is saying.
I am going to persevere until my stock is used and then buy different.

Nice to see James.
We had these iconic planes stationed at RAF Withering not far from where I live . They became commonplace flying over Stamford. Watching one take off into a climb is something you never forget, coupled with hearing that sound of the Rolls-Royce Olympus engines !

As to Vallejo primers, threw all mine into the bin and bought AK, esp the new 3 rd Gen.

Looking good James :thumb2:

I’m tempted to get one of these after watching your build.

Point taken on the primers John :tears-of-joy:
I did see a few fly but only just remember it. I did spend a week at wittering on cadet camp but it was GR9s there when I was there.

Started decals finally.

Panel lining was a bit OTT, it is the dirtyest Vulcan ever!
