Ok, sorry for the sort of pun. Having posted my two latest kits I thought I would bring together some photos of an ongoing, longish term project; to build many variants of the humble carrier.
the first I unfortunately do not have - accidents happen but fortunately i have some photos which were published in Military modelling many years ago, it is the Praying Mantis, the experimental weapon based on the carrier running gear, the actual vehicle is at Bovington:
This was based on the Tamiya kit with Resicast tracks.
Up next the Canadian variant mounting a 2lb gun;
Still on the mounted gun theme a British experimental version:
A quick trip 'down under' for the Australian pattern:
the last for the moment, the Rich Carrier converted into a Bren carrier:
The research for the Bren Carrier was interesting; for years there was no known surviving Bren Carrier, even Bovington didn't know of any surviving Bren Carrier. a few years ago Military Modelling mag had a feature about a show and there was a photo of a Bren Carrier, a quick email to Mil Mod and disappointment - they did not know who owned it. So off to the WWW and time on Google, an amazing bit of luck: I came across a photo of a wreck of the bren carrier on a the website of a shipping company which imported it from Australia. i emailed them and they passed on my contact details to the owner who contacted me. i explained that I was researching the vehicle for a model and he agreed to take a few photos for me. A Couple of weeks later I got an email with a link to a drop box and around 50 photos of his carrier! Very kind of him and fantastic reference.
on the bench at the moment is a standard carrier laden with the Black Dog load and a Riich mortar carrier version.
i may have been a bit over enthusiastic on the shopping front:
