Hi all. I do apologise, I haven't posted anything for ages. So long in fact that my subscription had expired!

I picked this up the other day; a modern British mortar team in 28mm from Empress Miniatures. It's made for wargaming but I thought I'd put it together as a little vignette. It's a very decent rendition of the L16 and realistic poses for the crew as well. There is a third figure, but he's looking through binos so I binned him. Also for some reason the bombs and greenies aren't supplied with this set so I had to buy the BAOR mortar team as well.

The barrel brush and greenie lid are made from plastic tubing and a bit of wire. The muzzle cover and bipod retaining strap were added from plastic tubing and wine bottle foil.

I got the paint brushes out last night and got the easy bit done - the mortar, greenies, bombs, barrel brush and a shovel. Figures next - painting MTP is a challenge to say the least! And then I'll tie it all together as a vignette.

I was an armourer at SWW school of Inf. In Netheravon. I used to convert over the 432's to the mortar role as well as repairing the bipods. As you say great days.

Almost forgot. I treated myself. I popped into the Tank Museum on Sunday and picked up this set of paints. Reckon they'll be a good base but I may need to tone them down a tad. They look a bit bright.

Should be fun to use Alex, lots of blending coming up I think.

Thanks for all your comments! A bit more progress - I got the No 1 finished. I wasn't happy with the first attempt - far too garish and far too dark. Toned the colours right down and I'm a lot happier.
