Papa695s Airfix 1/72 P-40B Warhawk

Are gaps at wing roots common place or is it a rare occurrence? The starboard wing root look mahoosive!!!! (Thats big in Anglo Saxon)!!

I've found it varies a lot. I had similar wing root gap issues with this particular model, but others have been almost invisible.

I liked the stretch sprue tip, I’ve used strips of styrene sheet before for the same purpose but your method appeals to my inner miser

That's me, late to the party again. But a good looking build anyway. I like P40's and I also like a desert scheme, and here's both together.
