Well done buddy a little perseverance and a step back every now and then to give yourself a pat on the back helps keep the right mind set , now you've primed up you can see it was worth the hassle ,look at it as the driving force to reach the part of the project that you enjoy the most you've had the smoke now bring on your fire.
Thanks for all your help recently as they say its good to talk. Dave

Evening all.

Much progress made on the base.

First thought I should show the size2022_5.jpg2022_3.jpg2022_4.jpg
For those that work in good old imperial , sorry.

2022_7.jpg
Before sticking with double sided tape a check is made,

2022_9.jpg
Here the tape is on, never easy to remove the cover to expose this part. Time to take it slowly along with keeping the face clean.2022_8.jpg
This photo show the tape stuck on, just about to cut to length.
2022_10.jpg
Edging tape done, rough at this stage as an allowance is left for the top layer of material, in my case just some dry sand and soil.

Having done the veneering a cover is applied with tape.

2022_12.jpg
You can see the hight left for the top layer with the veneer showing well above the white base .

2022_13.jpg
About to spray a very heavy coat of thinned PVA. Used that original bottle of glue up and since made up my own. Remove that spray top , and wash out well before putting the bottle cap back on.2022_15turned.jpg
Soil added, still very wet and left to dry over night. Resulting in.

2022.jpg
Some white just showing through so more glue was added and soil.

2022_3.jpg
Removing the edge.

2022_5.jpg
This where I am now, a little more cleaning of the veneer to do .

Thanks for looking in. JOHN.

That is looking pretty impressive already. I’d say barrel up looks more desperate and stranded than barrel down.

I’m going to vote for downward, but just slightly into the water as if there was not enough time to react

Not many suggestions on the barrel direction , so far it's 1 down and 2 including me for up.

Just a thought John without some sort of break on the traverse ring surly it would be looking down going by weight first

That's a very useful SBS of how the base is progressed.
I was going to say barrel up but having read David's post I reserve judgement :rolling:
Thanks Jim, your not the only one either, going to to have mine as down now.:nerd:

Tank turrets are fairly well-balanced, else they become hard to traverse on an incline, so I wouldn’t think it’s implausible for this one to have its gun barrel up into the air. And there will be a turret lock that secures it in whatever position the turret is in when it’s applied, but I admit it would be odd for that to be engaged with the turret at about 10 o'clock rather than at 12 or 6.
