Second phase on the bluffs.
This will do for now. I'll add more detail for the final pickies.
Anyone contemplating this sort of background work, remember the golden rule -
'The more the detail, the closer the picture will appear' So adding detail to certain parts of the flat 'canvas' will look like these bits are nearer and push the lesser detail to the rear.
During the actual landing, the ships of the invasion force tried to target the defenders. The result was the setting fire to the scrub. The smoke from the fires made it harder to find the targets!

Sometimes it's a nice diversion to get out the watercolours when some sort of backdrop is required.
To this end I've started on the seaward view. The destroyer is U.S.S. Frankford. Although badly hit, she went very close inshore and cruised up and down Omaha beach shelling defenders positions.
At one stage she spotted a surviving Sherman tank on the beach firing at the enemy. The ship used the tank's fall of shot as a guide for her own guns.....
