I will be joining this GB and are planning to build this.

I'm in an extended trip to Australia at the moment, so won't be able to start the build until later in October. I haven't decided which colour scheme to go with yet. I'll see what paints and have already and decide then.

Sorry guys, but I am truly horrible at finishing group builds, so I will have to sit this one out. I wish everyone a great time and I'll try to keep up with all your great builds too!!!...

I have made my choice of kit for this GB. It will be the HobbyBoss 1/72 Lavochkin La-7 (80236)

Unfortunately, I am suffering real health problems right now with Rheumatoid Arthritis but I am hoping that I can knock this one out fairly quickly - hence my choice of a HobbyBoss "Easy Kit".

Dave

Hi Dave

I had seen your post and apologies if I forgot to offer you some support.

Fully understand if you decide it is too much but if you can I will be interested in particular with this build. I have a 1/48 Easy Assembly P-47 in the stash and have heard very good things about them for supposedly 'simple' kits!

Hope the RA calms down a bit!

I am going to pass on this, sorry. Much as I would like to start my Polkarpov, when I eventually get back to making models I want to concentrate on finishing the French Fusiliers.
But I shall be watching from the 'wings'.....
Taxi for Neil :smiling5:

No problem at all Neil. There is only so much you can do and to be honest I am wondering how I will get my own one done!

This will be my effort for this GB.

I've got a pilot and will probably try to acquire some masks/markings as I go along.

I don't know much about the VVS, so I was surprised to discover that no fewer than 4,600 P-39s were delivered to the Soviet Union and that five of the Soviet Union’s top ten fighter aces primarily flew this type, including the number two scorer Alexander Pokryshin with 59 kills (48 on the P-39).

Just like Steve this is my subject, but it’s the Eduard 1/48 version.
View attachment 491723

No complaints about either of those. I actually have a different Soviet version of the Eduard P-39 in the stash and I was seriously considering doing it but something else has won out!

I'm gonna have a crack at one of these...

Kindly sent to me from Mr.Karl as I didn't have any Ruskie at all in the stash!!:flushed:
Cheers mate:thumb2:

Nice choice Andy!

Made up my mind on this and its going to be a ( hopefully) easy build . Its the Eduard Yak 3 , bought at the Cosford show a good few years back for the princely sum of £2 . No decals , etch, instructions or resin and the spinner was missing . AM decals , a spinner from the spares box and downloaded instructions from Eduards website and all is good . I’ll start a proper thread tomorrow.IMG_3174.jpegIMG_3175.jpegIMG_3176.jpegIMG_3177.jpegIMG_3178.jpegIMG_3179.jpeg

Normally pics of the sprues, decals & instructions, to kick it off, them posts, with pictures of your progress - you can put in comments about the model, history, reason for building................

I just want to check that this is a suitable victim for this GB.

It seems to make all the right noises but since my knowledge is woefully lacking I wanted to be sure before cracking open a build thread.

It's next on my build list anyway so thought I may as well join in if it fits the criteria.

Thanks

Andy.....that is in many ways arguably the most appropriate kit you could have chosen! I would like to do one of these one day!!

When I get a minute, I'll update the list!

Oh and welcome aboard!

lol, that's a relief. Thanks Andrew.

I've opened the kit, had a look at the canopy, and instantly ordered my first aftermarket masking kit :smiling5:

Andy

Oh do I know that feeling!!

I know they can be expensive when compared to the price of cheaper kits but they are worth their weight in gold IMHO. I have done DIY masks but they are so painful....especially for planes with a lot of glass!

Personally I try to by in bulk to save on P&P......as you can see below......and this is just a small selection of the masks I have......oh and I'm also about to press go and an order for another eight....

That's a lot of masks! :flushed:

I don't think I've had that many aircraft in total over the 4 or 5 years I've been modelling lol.

I ordered a big montex set which includes masks for some of the markings, since I dislike Tamiya decals so much.
