It is Commanche. Not ridden by Custer, but by Myles Keogh who was killed at Little Big Horn. Commanche was considered the only military survivor, though other horses did in fact survive - Commanche was left on the battlefield by the Sioux because he was so badly wounded.

Sergeant Reckless , Korean War, obviously promoted sergeant, 51 solo trips (with no handler) to outpost Vegas in one day, after which she was retired. Died 1968.
