Fuselage now together and wings and tailplanes on .No work needed on the joints , apart from the fact its a great fit , these would all have had natural break lines where they came off for storage in the tubular hangar . The two part engine cowling has been glued together after inserting the engine , but gives a tricky joint clean up due to the bumps . The canopy is also now on and ive made a start on the catapult .865463E4-609B-413E-A970-FA7E61F4402A.jpegA77FB3B3-CA89-4040-9B3F-59E4D895C238.jpegA5456238-64B3-4CC6-A8EE-146188C18A4F.jpegCDE09745-28D3-47B9-A27A-AA959C0772A4.jpeg

Got the floats together now and a few more bits on the airframe - namely the tailplane braces and the separate Junkers style ailerons . And , no its not an old Matchbox kit :rolling:- the sprue containing the catapult and a few other bits was in dark grey;)
The instructions would have you glue one of the float struts to the floats and the other to the airframe before putting it all together but I’m going to see if I can assemble the floats complete with all the struts and attach them later after paint - it will just make painting up a lot easier . I’ve now got the awkward job of assembling the floats and all their struts sorted , this complete assembly can now be added last off after painting, which will make this job and masking loads easier . One thing I found though - while positioning the floats and struts for gluing , the model is the equivalent of a tail sitter . It is very tail heavy and would make positioning on the catapult tricky as it would have a tendency to fall backward. To solve this I drilled a hole under each of the floats and cut lots of little strips of lead which were fed in until they were heavy enough . The lead was fixed by squirting some painters mate through the holes and they have now been filled . I could have saved myself the trouble if I had just thought about this before I glued the floats together. DOH !
The supplied vinyl masks have been applied and after giving the canopy and underside windows a quick spray and clean up with Tamiya xf71 ( japanese int green ) the whole airframe was primed with Halfords grey . Once this was dry the empennage ( ooh big word!) was sprayed with white primer ready for the red . The black area on the nose was also done with primer . The aircraft I’m doing is the one in the pic below . Your wish is my command o master!
Italeri did one in 1/48 andy , but I think its discontinued , John did have them in the SM shop ( about £27) but its currently listed as out of stock / discontinued. The toolings have been reboxed by Tamiya however and are currently readily available but have doubled in price! Its the italeri kit in a different box so why they have to charge 50/60 quid is beyond me ! The other option is the Revell 1/32 kit but that has gone mental too ,the twin float version going for around £100 now , when it first came out it was about £25. The single float version is a bit cheaper but still goes for around £40

Thanks for that Tony. :smiling3:
It's the Twin float version that I'm mainly interested in.
Mind you, those prices are pretty steep aren't they..... mefinks if I want to keep the Crown Jewels in tact I'd better reduce/build a lot of the stash before shelling out that many of my Groats on a Plane!! ;)

Tony, I might be late but I was going to say watch those vinyl masks. I've used them a couple of times and they do like to lift, ever so slightly.

Oh I see, another aircraft. Is someone in denial ?

No Colin, still in puberty........

Tony, this is looking really nice so far Sir!!! I don't quite understand your painting though. Is the plane white? Or is it silver? Or are you going to chip the white to show the silver underneath? Also, have you found a suitable submarine model kit to put it on when you're done?

Prost

Thanks allen , no its silver but a very light , matt silver , the confusion might be due to some of the pics appearing out of sequence, as for the submarine , watch this space ;)

After a coat of Alclad aqua gloss and 24 hours drying ive got the decals on . There werent many at all and they went on with no problems . Its now thoroughly drying out then once ive fitted the engine its going to get a semi matt coat to seal everything in and give a uniform finish . The floats will be attached last off .
