This is 4 and a half inches longer than the 1853 pattern and there are small differences in the scabbard.

This is the lunger. 1876 pattern socket bayonet for the Martini-Henry rifle.
the earlier 1853 pattern ,designed for the 3 band Enfield rifled musket, was often used with the Martini-Henry but the socket had to be reduced in width to fit.
i make that Lee's turn.
Jon.
P.s. Something I've just found out. The 1853 bayonet had a slight curve away from the barrel to prevent injury while loading, the Enfield being muzzle loaded.

The PPS differs in its dimensions (most obviously in that the magazine is further forward), and has a cruder appearance. I wish I could put my finger on this one, though

Well, it serves to keep something warm, or why else would it have a heating tube? I’m guessing it’s another V2 accessory, but again, it’s likely the sort of thing that will be too obscure to work out unless you’re already familiar with it.

It looks to be an insulated box with heating elements and electric plug in.Presumably to keep something at a steady temperature and protected.Again I can only think of blood/plasma storage in temporary situations like frontline medical posts for immediate use.

Afternoon Gents,

Sorry for the delay as work ran a little longer today.

Jakko, It is for the V2 and not as obscure as one would think...

Tim, You're killing me guy. I love your answers, but it has nothing to do with food or drink (Schapps warmer or the like)...

Jon, Sorry, it serves no medical purpose at all...

Hint; There was more than one type used for the same thing…(probably doesn't help much)

Hi Lee, Good answer, but not the correct one. It does keep something warm though....

I'm afraid not Sir. It's also not for oil or to keep things from freezing...It is used to keep something warm so it works properly with something else...

Our problem is that we’re not as familiar with V2 auxiliary equipment as you are :smiling3: I can’t think of anything that needs to be kept warm that might be used with a rocket and I can’t think of anything that might fit this box that might be used with a rocket — both of which are largely due to my not being all that familiar with the procedures and equipment associated with ballistic rockets, except in broad lines. I’m afraid the clues don’t help much, as they only really confirm ideas I already had but which so far got me nowhere for reasons already mentioned.

Some sort of solid fuel warmer so the mix would ignite when needed?
